New engine for King Tiger and Jagdtiger

2020 will see the delivery of the new King Tiger and Jagdtiger kits. Based on the P45, I made the P30. In this build of the new engine, I will try to be more complete in the instructions, also making use of the photos of other modelers, who have assembled the P45, to which I would like to thank you in advance. I use the translator, so if something is unclear, please ask. As I have always said, assembly is not difficult, you just need a little patience. I started the assembly today, so it won't be fast.
The first thing to do is to mount the MDF skeleton. I use the vinyl glue that I also apply internally as if it were color. This is important to have a solid foundation on which to build the engine.

The engine skeleton has a symmetrical geometry, the right side and the left side must be identified.
Very simple, you can see it from the photos.

There is the possibility to close the lower part of the engine, I suggest not to do it, but if you want to close, only after completing the assembly.

Now, after checking that the glue is dry and that everything is aligned and solid, we can start the actual assembly.
I use epoxy glue, because it gives me time to reposition the pieces in case of errors. However, I highly recommend trying 1,10,100 times before gluing, be sure the pieces fit properly. Once glued, it will be impossible to remove the pieces without damaging them.

I designed the engine empty to be able to insert something inside. If it is necessary to circulate air, these parts can be drilled on both sides. When it is painted and placed the holes will not be noticed.

For the front and rear sides, the two MDF discs can be used for centering. However always check, remember that it is a handmade product and it is not always accurate to the thousandth, there is the thickness of the glue that can influence it, so it may be necessary to position it a little off-center (3 - 4/10)

I am interested in purchasing a HL230 P45 engine model for my Tiger 1 build. Are the kits still available? I am thinking of fitting only a partial model probably from the exhaust upwards or from the centre of the crankshaft upwards. So if you no longer have a full kit I may be interested in purchasing some of the parts (rocker covers, carburetors, air filters etc.)

The P30 differs from the P45 in the presence of the sirocco fan on the back. After this first assembly phase and before continuing, I suggest painting the internal parts. But do as you wish

as I replied to Alastair, I did not design the engine to be cut. Of course it can be done but I can't guarantee the final result. If you cut in the center of the engine, almost all the pieces on the sides need to be cut and I don't think this will lead to significant savings. If you cut under the exhausts, you can completely eliminate the hips but, in my opinion, you must also cut the front and rear parts. Clearly this work will be done by the buyer and I do not guarantee the result. If there are interested people contact me privately asking me what they want to do and I will try to make the price. However, you will certainly save, but not much because of the more details and the bolts positioned at the top. If the reason is to save money, my engine is not cheap, I can agree, even if I repeat it, I don't know how much it will cost. If space is the problem, I think from the latest views built in the forum, it is no longer a problem using non-lead batteries. However, it is a pity to cut an engine that everyone said was very nice.
