Novice Late Tiger Build.

I've got it Sat on its own tracks for the first time.

I've bought a Mg 34 for the Cupola,not too sure if I'll use it yet.Some pics have one but some don't.

Hi Vince,I got it off ebay.I just typed "Dragon 1/6 Mg 34"

All Panzers carried x2 MG34T this was the armoured version of the machine gun which comes with the Dragon Bobby Woll figure.
When in normal use Panzers would have one MG mounted in the bow position the other in the turret, usually on road marches one of the MG was removed from its position and mounted on the cupola AA mount often the AA mount has no MG attached, so it would be up to the individual how he displays his model.

Thanks Mark. Interesting. I did not know that. I always assumed that the bow and turret MGs were fixed and could not easily be removed. I live and learn.

P.S. So for a late Tiger would they be MG 34 or MG 42? The 42 replaced the 34 as it was more reliable and easier to produce.

MG42 was never fitted to Panzers save for the AA mount on the engine deck of some Jagdtiger, if you can only find the normal MG34 this can have the barrel changed using the barrel from Armorpax

Thanks Mark,interesting info,I was just about to say about the Armored barrel off Armorpax,it's only a few pounds plus I need the Cupola mount off Dave.Im also looking at getting some tow hooks off Dave at Armorpax.He only lists Panther tow hooks although i dont know I would presume they are the same as the ones on the Tiger.If I can find the time I might have a go at weathering the gun to see how it looks.

Regarding the MG42 at the Panzer cupola mount, yes it is a big no no but just look at this photo below

I've had it running around under it's own power,I had 93 links either side but the tracks were too slack.I removed one link either side which was better but for some reason one if the false wheel bolts snagged.

Good thing I Hadn't painted the wheels.Thats good reason for having a trial run before final assembly and paint.

Hehe! The toys of a grown man.

Running the Tiger doesn't half hammer the paint on the wheels,presumably this is quite normal.I have noticed that some of the suspension arms have come loose on the torsion bars.I didn't intend doing much running so didn't go over the top tightening things up.I did make sure they were snug but not threadlocked or over tightened.Did you threadlock your torsion bar grub screws Brian?

Its now a case of stripping the wheel setup down and putting the final paint on them and detailing the sides of the Hull.

That type of Lego can be very addictive. Don't ask how I know!!

I did threadlock the torsion bar screws but I don’t think it’s necessary. I think you need a really good wrench. Look at MIP wrenches they got the best fit and are strong. I snapped a few lesser wrenches. When I went back in to adjust things the threadlock made a mess.
