Our Rolls Royce armoured car made an appearance at the T.E.Lawrence Symposium 2018 at Oxford University yesterday and at James Stejskal signing of his latest book - Masters of Mayhem ... a fascinating book detailing the tactics that Lawrence of Arabia employed in the Arab Revolt ... and of course the part that the armoured car played (available from Amazon)
Many thanks to the T.E.Lawrence Society. (http://www.telsociety.org.uk)

Really nice looking model. Interesting the dual front wheels on the book cover! Better for sand I suppose. Nice to have a real model at a signing.

If you look very closely at the cover, on the armoured car with the dual front wheels... sitting just above the spare tires, in the back on top of the storage box...
Is none other than Thomas Edward Lawrence....
It's one of the previously unpublished pictures Jim got for his book from the Gilman family, now in Chicago. Leofric Gilman of the Machine Gun Corps was an avid photographer and his war albums were 'discovered' a few years ago by Philip Walker, who has done remarkable work in tracking down the families of the Hejaz Armoured Car Squadron and Lawrence's protege's. Walker's book is also very worth reading.
In part thanks to Philip's research, books like Masters of Mayhem are now including masses of new photographs and records that have been handed down in families for 100 years, but never touched by Lawrence scholars. Jim's access has helped make Masters of Mayhem a remarkable book!

And it was just a blast to be able to drive the armoured car around the rotunda at St. Johns Collage with Kian!!!!! Thanks for bringing it!
Cheers,

Fellow Armortek Fans:
My friend Jim's book, Masters of Mayhem, has been nominated by Military History Monthly as Book of the Year!
He is up against some stiff competition including Mark Bowden's new book 'Hue'. Bowden is author of Blackhawk Down and Killing Pablo! So some serious competition and an indication of how important Jim's book is to military history!
How about we get out the Armortek vote for Jim and his book?

Re: RR Armoured car at the TEL symposium
With some amazing reviews worldwide and a lot of reader support, Jim's book received the Silver Award for military history book of the year by MHM magazine!
He got the word today and is pretty excited! He beat out Mark Bodwen's "Hue" and Chernow's bestselling book on Grant to win the silver medal!
Jim was part of our Blue Mist team and is working to build the replica of Lawrence's Tender.
His book Masters of Mayhem is a fantastic read! And very deserving of this plaudit!
