Some pictures of my early Tiger that I completed a while ago. Hopefully of interest.
Probably not entirely accurate but representing a May/June 43 tank commanded by Albert Kerscher Abt502.
The paint was done by a good friend, Jim Dowthewaite.

Kevin, lovely Tiger you've built, one of the most realistic. As Simon says, it's the restrained weathering which really makes it.

Kerscher is an interesting figure, overshadowed by his company commander, Carius, but an outstanding tank commander in his own right. He was an RT in his own right and was recommended for the Eichenlaub for one action in which he's thought to have killed 32 Soviet tanks virtually single handed. He exploited the strengths of the Tiger, formidable in static defence, particularly when it overmatched the opposition. In the offence, the Tiger's shortcomings were exposed, particularly the lack of tactical mobility and reliability. It lacked the balance of qualities of an outstanding tank. Makes you wonder why it's so universally popular.

I wondered about the novel take on the Balkenkreuz, having never seen one like that before. I guess it was peculiar to Abt 502.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Yes Stephen, I think it was only the second company of the 502 that used black background for the Balkenkreuz. I had a guess at the 214 as I never found which tank Kerscher would have had.
