Hello Vince, I have a DX8 and use this new control system on my Rolls Royce....the number one dip switch should be in the 'on' position....Mick

Thanks Michael for the info. So I guess it's safe to put that switch in the ON position.

This morning had another search for the three wire R/C cable but still could not find it. So went on eBay and ordered a pack of five cables. As it is I still needed to get these cables if eventually I want the lights and M/G to work. The good news is that the seller has already sent me a message that my order has been processed and posted.
I was looking forward to hear the sound of the Tiger working this weekend.
Could somebody tell me what the following R/C channels control? I have figured out some of them but would love to have a confirmation.
1) Gear - Various sounds and recoil (not sure on recoil)
2) Rudder - Turret turn
3) Elevator - Drive motor
4) Aileron - The other drive motor
5) Throttle - ???? No idea

In Mode 1, the left stick is Elevator (U/D) and Rudder (L/H), the right stick is Throttle (U/D) and Aileron (L/R).
In Mode 2, the left stick is Throttle (U/D) and Rudder (L/R), the right stick is Elevator (U/D) and Aileron (L/R).
On two stick driving, you would usually have:
1) left stick (U/D)- Left Track
2) right stick (U/D) - Right Track
3) left stick (L/R) - Turret Turn
4) right stick (L/R) - Gun Elevation.
On single stick driving (elevon mixing), you might have:
1) right stick (U/D) - Motion forwards/backwards
2) right stick (L/R) - Motion left/right
3) left stick (L/R) - Turret Turn
4) left stick (U/D)- Gun Elevation
How these map to the named channels depends on your transmitter mode.

Adrian, the manual shows dip switch 1 ON, and the other three (2, 3, 4) OFF.
In your post, you indicate that dip switch 4 should be ON. Is this correct?

Sorry, I meant in Vince's photo of the manual, his shows dip switch 4 as ON in the default position.
The only one I've had turned ON is dip switch 1.
Should I slide switch 4 to the ON position?

According to the Elefant manual, DIP switch 4 is to select between 5A and 60A on Speed Control 3, with ON being the default (60A).
For a tank, where Speed Control 3 is being used for a track, then it should be on (60A).
For something like a Quad, where it is for controlling the winch, then it should be off (5A).

I just checked my transmitter and it says mode 1 enabled and checked the monitor page and the left stick is Throttle (U/D) and Rudder (L/R), the right stick is Elevator (U/D) and Aileron (L/R). It seems to be different than what you said in your post.

If you go to "System Setup" then "System Settings", what does it say as the mode there ?
On the Monitor page, it may say "Flight Mode 1" but that's something different.

Vince, it might help if you have a look at the Knowledge Base Topic on setting up a Spectrum RC system. I've just included an explanation of how the various bits of the system relate to each other and how our RC tanks map to the aircraft terminology used on RC systems. I hope it helps, if not please comment constructively.

I am starting to feel overwhelmed. Last time I had this feeling was many, many moons ago when transitioning from slow prop aircraft to fast commercial jets. At the moment it feels that it is easier to land a 77 tonne aircraft in a 30 kt crosswind then set up this system. I will persist and I am sure that with the help here I will overcome this obstacle.

My grandfather was a B-26 Pilot In WW2. He encouraged RC and was a pioneer in the hobby. In all honestly it* (RC) is harder than the real thing.

It may seem daunting but it really isn't. Don't forget I've probably set up 50 odd transmitters over the years.
Start simple, just get the MCM wired up with the battery, remote switch and one RC channel.
Use the MCM on-board LEDs to check things out before you add the motors.
Use the Monitor on the transmitter to see what changes when you move controls, and how those changes affect the MCM, and build up from there.
Get both main channels working to your satisfaction, then look at adding in the Audio Module.
If you do that, you'll know things worked without it, which can aid diagnosis if you do get any glitches.
And you'll have a feel for the flow of things from the receiver to the motors.

Morning Vincent, have no fear...you will overcome these perceived problems, Adrian, Stephen and others on Forum will guide you, all is well. As Adrian has described you have to 'setup' the system, one stage at a time. Even after sixty years using radio control I struggle with RC however....when the tank fires up and all systems are go, it's a great feeling, stick with it
