Tiger tank comander captured at Carnforth

Post by Paul Morris »

Hi fellas.
Stop press "German tank comander captured at country railway station"

Had this photo taken today at Carnfoth railway station, its a shame that what could have been a great event has suffered from virtually no advertising, we live a couple of miles away and did not know it was on until this morning :(
As you can see there were quite a few yanks there with trucks and jeeps and equipment and one solitary captured German pilot so we tried to rush to his aid but wer soon captured by the local home guard and placed under arrest lol.
Cheers Paul

Paul,

It looks like that could have been a good event, you even had some sun shining. This often happens with poor advetising and its then a little embarrassing for the participants with no public around. The tank looks good though.

Hi Alan.
Yes wow sunshine  as you say its a pity about the advertising side of things as there wer lads there from a long way off for the re enacting side of it and lots of vehicles we could not take many pics as the battery went on the camera but there wer 3 or 4 different jeeps a German radio truck witha trailer and German combination on the back a Russian amphibious vehicle of some sort too as well as the big American trucks, thanks for your comment on the Tiger it sparked a lot of interest as usual and i even found another Armortek owner from Coln.
Cheers Paul

Hi Paul,

I saw the vehicles coming this morning from my office window, I had known about it since last Thursday, but had forgotten about it until this morning when my mate Tony Howarth asked if he could unload his Gaz and his Willys jeep in our compound, you have taken a photo of them both together. Tony’s a bit of a character, he’s appeared in a few films, his most famous role was in Yanks, with his Willys Jeep! He will be over in Pickering next weekend.

The German radio wagon was nice and mainly original, the combination was not what it seemed, it is a Russian Ural R71, it just the same as the pre war BMW R71, because it was built from their plans.

Paul  .

Hi Paul,

Just our luck, the sun shines and then you have an allied invasion without warning. Typical  Don't worry I'm gathering my Panzergruppe and I'm trying to break through to free you and your Tiger

Nice photo's Paul.

Thanks Antony
