Panzer III/KT Parts - Split hatch pics added
Hi All,
Jim was asking about update parts in another thread so thought I would give an idea of what's coming.
Our imminent new arrival has not left me lots of time for masters recently but I am now clearing the decks and getting ready to start on new parts for later this year.
In between getting the Quad 50 finished I plan on doing some new German update parts and these will include:
Split hatch for Panzer III/IV
Side Vision ports with cone heads (Masters nearly done)
Turret Side door interior details (Available shortly)
Loaders Hatch for KT
I am also hoping to start on the short barrelled 75mm if time permits.
If there are other updates people would like please let me know and I will see if I can accommodate.
Best regards
Dave

Hi Jim,
Are these the hooks you mean? If so does anyone have a good detail picture of the item I could work from?
I believe these are the items that you mentioned in another post that are included already in the kit.
These are the parts for the Turret door interior, I will have a price for the set soon.
I spoke to Gill and Mark today and they are kindly going to send me over a cupola so I can get the split hatch to be a direct fit.
And finally the answer David is almost certainly yes, all these parts will be metal. We normally only use resin where it is not possible to get the detail in metal or the section is too large to make it practical due to shrinking and dishing. Whilst I understand the desire for all metal parts I still think it is best to use a material that gives the best results/detail and often that means a mixture of resin and metal.
If anyone has some really close up pics of the pistol ports these would be handy as my Panzer III library is somewhat lacking at present
Best regards,
Dave

Thanks Anthony. Also found some details on the pistol ports in my P4 stuff as they are the same of course
Hooks should be fairly straight forward but not sure how viable the mesh grills would be for me due to costs involved in artwork and tooling.
Cheers

Dave,
Here is a line drawing of the hooks and other details for your consideration:
Also shown here, offer for your consideration as possible additional items are:
shell guard used on PIII, ausf F-L
lift hooks (6 needed)
tow cable guides and clamps (you could supply a tow cable too...)
air intake mesh grills
I also show the side vision ports on the hull as well.
As you can see, the lifting hooks on the turret and the ones on the hull are very different. Thus we need both.
Please let me know if this will satify your needs for modeling the items you will - any way I can help, please don't hesitate to ask of me.

Guys,
On the mesh grills, can someone tell me the size of the mesh squares? I am asking because we may be able to use a brass hardware cloth close to the size needed. A woven wire mesh may even look more realistic for this item than a sraight PE part as well. Then all we need is the outer frame.
But, someone would have to probably buy a minimum amount - and that would probably be enough to do ALL the tanks....
So, before one of us runs out and buys something - lets have a gameplan. I mean, If we found a suitable mesh and let Dave know about it - then he might be able to adapt it to a frame for a general offering.
Anyway, if someone can get me those dimensions, I will be more than happy to look into to this further.
Just an idea,

Hi Guys
I got 4mm square woven mesh from squires in Bognor Reiges that I used for the grill covers I made for my panther and I will use the same
for these covers.
Its about £10 for a bit 18"x12" it comes mail order next day and it is easy to solder with a standard electric soldering iorn and soft cored solder.
I just made a frame from model shop thin brass strip.
I did the 4 panther grills in about 2 hours.
I gave the part number to Mark some time back so maybe Gill could post it here with the phone number as I don't have the squires book here at the moment,
Regards
Derek
