The Tank Museum Events 2018

Post by Armortek »

Some notes for your diaries if you're planning to come to Bovington with Armortek in 2018.

South West Model Show – Winter Edition - the weekend of 10th & 11th February
- I'll be asking for attendance early in the New Year.
South West Model Show – Autumn Edition – the weekend of 13th & 14th October

Tiger Day IX Saturday - 28th April
Tiger Day X Saturday - 15th September

Tankfest 2018 – Friday 29th June – Sunday 1st July

Note the two Model Shows will be two-day events next year.

TankFest is again a three day event and will the Armortek main effort. We're likely to be able to set up early on the Friday, which will be a full event day. The success of TankFest has attracted such numbers that the Museum is looking to make the show more enjoyable by maintaining overall ticket numbers but reducing the crowd size on site each day. We expect to have a new area and with the Bailey Bridge released are staring to think about plans to create a more realistic running area with better terrain and maybe even some set pieces. If you are thinking of coming (especially our international customers), do book accommodation as soon as possible. It's always in short supply. If you have any ideas about our display area and the format of our presence, we'd welcome comments here or by PM/email.

Lots to anticipate and lift the winter gloom (unless you're reading this Down Under, in which case, you should be watching the cricket/rugby whatever)

Registration. It's great to have registrations already, must be something to do with either cricket or winter gloom (unless you're reading this Down Under). I've opened lists now for all the shows. Please note that I'll acknowledge each one either by PM or email but won't reply to your post on the Forum.

Availability of Tickets. Exhibitor tickets are always at a premium, given that the Tank Museum forgoes revenue. We've always done very well and that is due not least to being seen to be reasonable in our requirements. For some shows, our numbers are limited by space, although again, the Tank Museum staff have always been very flexible and accommodating. If we do reach our limit for a particular show, I'll always create a reserve list and will try very hard to get extra tickets near the day. Similarly, the exhibitor ticket is intended for participants only, in our case, those bringing models. I can note if you need extra tickets for family and friends and can try to help but I won't guarantee to succeed. If you don't want to risk not having ticket for family for those shows which sell out (TankFest in particular), I'd suggest you book tickets online. Always happy to discuss particular requirements if you let me know in good time.

Regards

Stephen

Hello all, ref Tank Fest 2018
Put me on the going list +1 & 4 models. I be there for the 3 days & happy to help with the set up.

With the opening of the new workshop facilities, there will be a certain amount of shuffling around the display ground. If Armortek is allocated a larger running area ( you never know your luck), how about some undulating mounds & a trench crossing section, :?: :)

Happy Tanking Dave N

Dave thanks. You're logged. Please note the comment I made about extra tickets for +1s above.

The new building at the Tank Museum will restrict the space available for TankFest and we're working now with the Museum staff to secure the best site available. We know that it won't be the same as previous years. Although we may well be pressed for space, we are looking at the possibility of landscaping the running area. Ideally, we'd like to create a WW1 section of the Hindenburg Line, a gap for the Bailey Bridge to span and some "hills" to demonstrate basic tank tactics.

The pressure on space does mean that we will have to pay more attention to layout and, I'm sorry to say, be more organised, to make the best use of the space available. We'll publish the plans when we've agreed them with the Tank Museum.

Note that pressure on space might also translate into pressure on numbers, so the message is book early to avoid the obvious.

Just to confirm I've logged everyone in the posts above who've asked for TankFest Tickets. Plenty of time left but it would help to know who's coming sooner rather than later. If you're travelling from a distance, do book accommodation as soon as possible, it sells out very quickly. Best regards. Stephen
