King Tiger suspension upgrading from 2009 to 2013 version.

Post by Chang »

Dear Gill,

My I firstly wish you and Mark all the best in the future.

I have a few questions about upgrading the King Tiger’s suspension from 2008 KT to 2013 KT.

In 2009 KT, the suspension bar (CK0105) has nine of smaller (Φ 15mm) diameter holes for smaller diameter suspension bushes (CH0112) (See Fig.1) and smaller diameter suspension shafts (CK0202 & CK0203) (See right in Fig. 3).

In 2013 KT, the suspension bar (CK0105) has nine of LARGER (Φ 20mm) diameter holes for LARGER diameter suspension bushes (See Fig.2) and LARGER diameter suspension shafts (CK0202 & CK0203) (See left in Fig. 3).
Image

Question 1 : how to insert the LARGER (Φ 20mm) suspension shaft of 2013 KT into the smaller (Φ 15mm) hole on the hull side (CK0101 & CK0102) of 2008 KT ? It hasn’t been explained and shown the difference in size in the upgrade manual, and was only found when I compare the difference in diameter of these 2 type of suspension shafts. See Fig. 3.
Image

Question 2 :, the O-ring coded CH0220, with smaller diameter in 2008 KT, but changed to LARGER diameter coded CP0191 in 2013 KT. Yet in my upgrading kit received was coded CP0193. Is CP0193 the same thing as CP0191?

Question 3 : Is the hull side (CK0101 & CK0102) of 2013 KT different from 2008 KT (See Fig. 4) with LARGER hole diameter to accommodate the LARGER suspension shafts and LARGER O-ring (CP0191 or CP0193)?

With best Regards,
Lerh Chang

PS. If any KT owner also has got answer on these 3 questions, please share your experience here, and will be highly appreciated.

Hi all of King Tiger lovers,

Regarding the above-mentioned questions, after discussing with Gill, I find that instead of enlarging the side hull's 18 holes to adapt the 18 larger suspension shafts(CK0202 / CK0203 of 2013 version), I can simply insert both smaller diameter bronzen bush (CH0112 of 2009 version) and larger diameter bronzen bush (CK0128 of 2013 version)together, into the larger holes on the suspension bar(CK0105 of 2013 version),

then I can still use the smaller diameter suspension shafts (CK0202/CK0203 and O-ring of the 2009 version). All other upgrading parts are used without further problem.

This simple idea can save big time and money on dis-assembling, enlarging the 18 hole of side hull, before re-assembling all suspension parts back.

Even so, it still is a big job.

Looks like a big job to me too  My original KT's run really well - what improvements are you expecting from the updated suspension?

Hi Peter, :D
Yes, my 2009 KT run very well too.
My intensions was to add the 18 fixed ends (CK0212 & CK0213)and star washers into the upgraded suspension bars (CK0105) as the 2013 KT. According to Armortek's explanations, it will be easier on later adjustment of the angle of the 18 suspension arm (CK0201). I reckon it is worthwhile to give it a try.
I wasn't expect the 18 suspension shafts (CK0202 & CK0203) become bigger.

With Regards,

Lerh Chang
