Hi all, I am looking to replace my car shortly and am wanting to get something more practical and a bit bigger load space than the Seat Leon that ive been using.
With this car, i can load my Panther, a pair of folding ramps and a just about squeeze in one smaller 1/6 models like a Kubel or Armortek 222.

I am looking at gettin an Estate car and would ideally like to be able to fit my Panther and another large Armortek in the back if possible.

I am wondering what others use, and if anyone can reccomend a car that can hold 2 Armorteks, assuming that one exists. If not then i may have to consider a trailer.

I dont want to buy a van as i have nowhere to store one, although i could use my roofbox for the ramps if needed although a lot of hassle to keep fitting & removing for a few shows each year.

I drive a Mondeo Mk3 and can get a M-1-T JS2 and an Armortek T34 in it, with ramps.

As it is a hatchback, I usually put a small pallet in the boot space, to reduce the drop from the door sill to the floor, and to flatten out the interior when the rear seats are down. I can't really recall how I loaded it but I think the JS2 went sideways over the back seat, and the ramps and T34 went in the boot, again sitting sideways.

I've taken the BARV around Normandy and, without the pallet, it was possible to keep the parcel shelf attached so that the tank wasn't visible. It just needed some wooden blocks to make a small ramp for the BARV to climb up to the main ramps.

I've noticed that the current Mondeo hatchback has a much narrower boot width where it meets the bumper, which would make loading tanks more difficult.

I will probably go for an estate of some description next time, as they usually have a flatter loading space, so no need for the pallet.

I have a Hyundai Sante Fe 2010. 47" between the wheel arches I get Tiger and Comet side by side and also 251 across the rear and the ramps go behind the seats.

It depends on your budget, of course, and what you want to use the car for when it's not acting as a Prime Mover .....

But my suggestion is an old Range Rover. I can get a Panther and a Mark IV together in the back of mine. No room for the ramps, though, so they either go in the front passenger foot well or on a roof rack.

Mine is a 38A (second generation) 2001 4.0 litre with an LPG conversion. But an early L322 (third generation) would do the job too. And there's a plethora of engine types and trim levels to chose from. A simple eBay search will give you a good idea of what's out there. You get a lot of car for your money .....

Tim, having had Chris making a play for a Range Rover I am going to suggest as a second vehicle a VW T4 Transporter. They are fun to drive, with a brilliant view over hedges and the capacity to have easily three Tanks in the back and possibly four.
Now this may sound silly and be taking the thread off direction but I think modern estates don't have the capacity that older one have so when our 2000 year, old VW Passat Estate dies we shall be very sad, until then Yabba Dabba Doo! Steve
