Adhesives
Several people have asked for more info on recommended grades of adhesives
The most important thing about using adhesives with metal and rubber is not what glue or grade
of Loctite you use. By far and away more important, is how clean the parts are before you bond them.
Clean with a proprietry pre adhesive cleaner or use a clear alcohol (ie vodka or gin) and allow to dry
before applying adhesive.
When bonding flat surfaces like tyres to wheels, rough up the surface a little with coarse abrasive paper.
This helps key the adhesive to the surface.
For flat surfaces such as tyres to wheels use
Loctite grade 410 (a rubber reinforced cyano super glue). an alternative is Scotch weld RT300B. These must be kept refrigerated,
and will gap fill.
For high strength retainer such as bearings into housings use
Loctite 638 (or the new 6300) or Scotch weld RT38
For high strength threadlocking (ie never to come apart)
Loctite 270 (or the new 2701) or Scoitch weld TL70
Low strength threadlocking, just to stop things working loose, use
Loctite 220 or Scoth weld TL34

Re: Adhesives
Sure, just don't reach for the Acid-8 by mistake, especially after "using" the gin/vodka first. Happy New Year!

Re: Adhesives
Does anyone have an up to date list of Loctite products that are best to use and where to buy them.
Struggling to find Loctite Grade 410.
Or if not available equivalent products.

Re: Adhesives
Steve, I have bought 480, both from a UK official stockist and from Ebay. The bottles, labels and contents was exactly the same in each case, Interestingly, both had Chinese writing, so I guess it comes from China wherever you buy it.

Re: Adhesives
Just as an aside to this thread one thing to check when buying these products off the internet is the Use By date. Last Loctite I bought was 6 months past its use by date. I spoke to Loctite who were in fact very helpful and whilst they were aware of 20 year old Loctite still being used they obviously couldn't guarantee the results of using their products past their date. Got a refund in my case. Last time I looked the same Loctite products on tinternet were being sold at wildly varying prices and I suspect this is due to the amount of shelf life left. Some suppliers(but not all) make reference to this.

Re: Adhesives
Hi Guys
Thanks for all the help and advise, it's great knowing that there are guys out there willing to help.
My current and first project is the Limber for the 25pdr, As a starter kit l think it is just right.
I got the Armorpax upgrade kit to to with it, very impressed.Taking it slow and steady.
No doubt I'll have lots more questions as I progress.
Regards
