King Tiger No18 arrived

Post by Uwe Gerstenmayer »

A quite long time dream came true when my big cat arrived on Thursday :D :D
What an impressive and fantastic KIT !
I've been quite happy not to work at UPS, seeing the guy handling the four heavy boxes into my cellar workshop
Unpacking the boxes has been better than christmas and Easter on a day  :D

For all the "newbe ones" like me, maybe struggeling for financial reasons, JUST DO IT !!
It's worth each pence and penny and will give you lots of fun and an outstanding model !

Still looking and re-packing all the fantastic parts my KT will have to wait until my FLAK is "finished" Made my last rivet thirty years ago

Spend some time doing a complete inventory. A bit daunting but worth doing now. Gill usually includes the full list of bags that should be present. Enjoy the kit :D

Thx a lot !
I hope to get started early next year with the KT. Before I want to have my FLAK finished and the appr. "House Adjustments" done
Beside the new kids rooms a proper display place for my tanks has priority :)
I've followed Johns hint and have done a more detailed review of all the parts in the KIT, but all are perfectly in place :D

I'll try to show some progress on my FLAK 36 so far in the Flak section.

cheers,

Uwe

Hello Folks :D ,

now back home again after a long medical treatment 8)

I couldn't resist and had a start on my Kingtiger No 018 from 2013.
In the fit and function phase the hull was pretty nice, but with the turret I'm struggeling. :?

The backplate is by 4,0mm higher than the rear sidewalls of the turret, even if all datums are nicely aligned..

Any good hint how to hide or better how to fix the deviation ???

My mill is fast, so better to ask some stupid questions upfront ...

Thanks and best regards from Cologne,

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

Here is what I did to the rear plate of my 2009 KT turret per the example posted by Mark Bennett of his KT turret mod.

[quote="Brown Hawkins"]After fretting that I was going to irreparably screw it up, I finished milling the rear plate of the turret per M. Bennett's thread:

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hello Yves and Brown ,

thanks a lot for the very helpfull hints :D

I'm allready busy on the mill with the backplate and the fixing blocks.

Interesting to see that the turret has been new designed for the 2013 release, but the "surprises" stay the same

Tomorrow it should be fixed and I'll show the results..

Hello Per,

thanks for the appreciation  Just hope that the Kingtiger will come together a bit faster

cheers Uwe

Short update on my turret issue,

thx to the good hints I've made my solution :

1.) the rear fixing blocks lowered by 1,0 mm
2.) the upper area milled down complete on the roofpanel level
3.) recess added with 0,5 mm , hingeblocks kept on the original level (now proper alignment, no tension)
4.) I've added a 6 x 6 mm Profile to the rear plate and fixed it with two spring-pins
This should allow to add the welding details, but have a chance for a removable deckplate

There are still lots of details to do but the rough fit & function is in place now :D

cheers,

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

Your progress is looking good, I definitely like the rear turret hatch fix. I just need to find someone over here to help me out with that one :D

I hope you are not doing too much, Julieta will be keeping an eye on you!

Hi Paul  ,

being sick at home means a lot of time .,..

I made some progress on my big Cat, simply couldn't resist to start something with chains  :D

Attached are some pics what has been done so far on my Kingtiger..
The Rear-Deck is designed now as one Unit for easy removal vs. access.
Lots of more to scale fasteners used.....

Take care and have fun with your Re-Build :!:
