I've just added the topic Weathering - How to Select the Materials in the Advanced Section. This covers some of the basics and some reference sources.

As ever, comments and additions welcome, particularly given the expertise so evident in some threads on this Forum. I could name a couple of experts though, without showing fear or favour to currently active members.

Noel in Australia has painted some spectacularly good, understated tanks, posted by Dale Jordan here (and on other threads):
