Re: Adopt a Tank Week Walsall
Michael -
Thanks for this - I haven't seen this picture before .........
'Tank Banks' were the WW1 equivalent of Spitfire Weeks in WW2 - both were the 'wonder weapons' of their age. There were a number of Mk. IV's (Britannia, Julian and Egbert to name just three) that travelled all over the UK (and even the USA !) to raise money to buy tanks. I've got a lot of postcards of such visits, but I know I've only scratched the surface.
To give you an idea of how popular and successful these funding drives were, I have a card saying that Sunderland was aiming to collect £3 Million in a week - in 1918 !
Finally, if Walsall is your particular interest, I attach a scan of a couple more cards I have of the same event.

All the best,
Chris

Re: Adopt a Tank Week Walsall
Hi, Chris and Michael.
The name JULIAN rang a bell, there was a picture published in our local paper in Jan. of a tank in Lanark Scotland on Aug. 1 1918 called Julian No. 113 , if its the same one as in Walsall, it done a lot of traveling.
Regards Walter.

Re: Adopt a Tank Week Walsall
Hello Chris, thank you for listing the tank photographs, I have added them to my 'Family Tree'. I was born in Walsall in 1937 and have been collecting 'Around Walsall' photo's for years so these are a lovely addition. Best wishes Mick.
