Is this a 1:1 scale reproduction Tiger?

Post by Alan Hamby »

I don't speak German so I can't tell what exactly is going on in this video but I'm guessing this guy is building an exact 1:1 scale reproduction?

Can anyone tell me what they are saying and what is going on?

Thanks,
Alan

You are correct...
He is building his own 1/1 model.
He wanted the original but due to the fact those pieces are hard to find and if so its to expensive so he started building his own.
4 Years he is working on it and his know how he's got from working in the army working on tanks.
The canon and machine gun are made from plastic.
The tracks he had them made as copy of the real link 200€/piece.
Needed 200 pieces that makes a total of 40.000€ so he saves money everyway possible, taking no vacation or any other way of spending money so he can save for his poject.
He already spent 9000 hours working on it and to do his wife a pleasure having spent more time with the tank instead of his wife he has named the tank after her (Irina).
His dream is to have the tank be part of an American movie...
He likes to work alone but he can't do i all himself so he needs some help. That guy first thaught he was crazy but seeing is believing....
His wife likes the project but would like it more when he would spend some more time with her and the kids.
He still needs to build the gearbox, wheels and more parts of the track.
He will have more years to go to finish the work and after that he would like to build the Titanic but on a smaller scale.....

Regards

Sven

Thanks very much Sven! When I saw them interviewing the wife I imagined that was pretty much what she was saying.

His work is very impressive. It certainly looks to be in the correct proportion but man, that is a lot of money on the track links. Wow.

Alan

I've forgotten to say he already has a working engine in it...
As you could see in the video he is welding on it so the body is metal...
And yes indeed it is impressive how far a man goes for his hobby and certainly how much patience and understanding his wife is for his dream to come true...

Regards

I bought that real link from him on EBay some years ago.
Then he had "only" the turret made and told me all about his plans to build a whole Tiger.

Stefan Wubbelman is his name and he promised me a ride in the Tiger when it was finished :D

Surely the track link is metal one, only lighter in weigh. I remember the real steel link is about 28kg each.

It's really incredible. The guys at my office tease me that I'm trying to build a Tiger because anytime I see a piece for sale I buy it. I've got several track links, a roadwheel, a fender skirt, things like that. So I just showed them this video of someone who really is building a Tiger and they were dumbfounded.

So the turret for instance, how did he make something like that? I mean surely the turret wall is only a few millimeters thick right? I just can't imagine how you'd go about having such huge pieces like this made.

Hi Alan,

I have no way of knowing at this stage but at a guess I would be surprised if he were to cut any corners and do a cheap fix. This man is committed bigtime.

To keep you informed.
As far as I know, he stopped the project and start a new one.
The new project is the actual new Tiger in Munster, which is
build from original parts.

Christian, there are also parts to build a further x2 Tiger Wanne but only x1 turm at the moment, he has also built x2 Panther but I won’t say which variants all from original parts, this weekend they will probably be at Munster again they were there last year (Pfingsten) and are interesting chaps to talk with.
Have you noticed the mixture of original track links plus late and early type all mixed together on the Munster Tiger.
