Got to laugh, because I pulled my hair out on this same issue for a long time, before I asked Gill. LOL
It does mount from the inside. The Tension screw PUSHES on the cup.
I never saw in the instructions where it said anything about mounting it one way or the other.
Anyway it does go inside.
