New Futaba radio system question

Post by Derek Attree »

Hi Guys
At wings and wheels over the weekend I noticed that the new Futaba
radio systems are using T-FHSS technology where as the old stuff is Fasst.

Will this be able to work with the Armortek electronics which seems to work best on Fasst system.

Any idea

There was a thread about this when the T6J was first introduced:

http://www.armortek.co.uk/Forum3b/viewt ... 934#p33628

I don't know if anything has changed on either side, but I'm not aware of any changes to the Armortek modules since then.

Hi Adrian
There were some nice 10 channel units at a good price and a lot of 6 channel ones.
I saw no 7c sets at all. :(
I wondered if they were going to finish making them.
If so that could be a problem for us all.

Hi Derek

We have checked this with Futaba. The T-fhss is a low cost system and is
not suitable for any digital equipment not specially designed for it. The Armortek
system, and just about every other system currently on the market, do not work with T-fhss. Futaba have no plans to stop producing the 7C or any of the other FASST sets in the range.

So no need to worry.

Hi Derek
I tried a few model shops for a 7c for my Sdkfz7,they all blamed the supply situation on the wholesaler and tried to sell spectrum or Hitek systems,so I don't realy beleave
them either.
I bought a 7c receiver instead and used one of my other transmitters.
Hopefully things will resume as befor soon.

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,

According to my local model shop who don't sell Futaba any longer fliers tend to prefer Spektrum because of the extra facilities and in my opinion better customer service from Horizon.

Hi Dennis
Yes that's what I was told,Horizon are much more efficient and better to deal with.
I have 3 Spektrum 7's on my Helicopters, excellent quality and easy enough to understand.
I like the Futaba 7C for the ease of use and the VR knob on channel 6 for the MG
Traverse,great for the Tanks.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil and Denis
Yes Spectrum is good radio but its not compatible with
our tanks electrics as far as I know.
The bulk of the traders were selling spectrum radios at wings and wheels not
Futaba.
As hobby stores ( Ripmax owned) have been closing a lot of there shops I wonder if this is the reason the supplies of the 7c have dried up on the high street.
I got 2 spare receivers for my 7c so I am not worried at the moment I just wondered what the difference was.

Thanks for the replies

Hi folks,
I just brought a Futaba 8 Channel remote control a couple of weeks ago. My LiFEPO4 batteries are on order. The model I've got is called FUT8JR2008. At the hobby shop they don't stock Futaba they mainly deal with flyers. I asked for a 7 channel system but they said they couldn't get them from their supplier so I ordered an 8 channel.

They shop has a very good reputation locally as knowing their stuff regarding remote controls of course they don't have any Armortek customers. They didn't mention anything about FHSS or FASST and I showed them photos of my tank and explained what it was going to be used for. They had to order one in for me and it cost $367 so I didn't consider it cheap.

I've checked the box with dread and found its 2.4Ghz S-FHSS. My heart sank. I asked a friend at work who is a flyer and explained the issue, he said the FHSS is just how the remote control talks to the receiver so it shouldn't make any difference.

I'm going to show him the remote control on the weekend and he's seen my tank and the Armortek accessories. I don't know what to do now, just try it and see if it works or try for an exchange however they've already said they couldn't get 7 channel units.

Any suggestions? I've never used remote controls before.

Hi Derek,

Sorry to contradict you but I have been using my Spektrum DX8 with my Armortek Tiger for about 2 years now. The big advantage being it has failsafe on all channels which means if you loose signal the tank just stops whereas Futaba 7C has only failsafe on channel 3 and ends up going round in circles. Also if you use multiple receivers/models on one transmitter the receiver is actually bound to the model on the transmitter, so if you accidentally leave the other model turned on it does not get controlled which does not happen on Futaba as I know to my embarrassment on several occasions.

Darren,

I would go for a Spektrum system if you can get one, I certainly would recommend it.

Dennis.

Hi Denis
I am glad your spectrum works with your tanks.
My main question that was answered by Mark was about the
2 different Futaba systems.
I also remember back in the day Mark advising against other
systems other than the Futaba Fasst as the Armortek electronics
were set up to this standard.

I dont mean to mislead and have no issues with either system but did not
want a beginner to buy the wrong futaba system with Fhss.

Hi Derek and Dennis,
Thanks for the reply, so can I expect the Futaba 8 channel with FHSS to still work?
Does the spectrum use FHSS or FASST?
If I got another tank I realise I'd need a similar FHSS receiver.
The model shop has spectrum units and recommended them as does my flyer mate.
I asked them to order the Futaba unit as that was recommended by Amortek.
Until this forum I hadn't seen any comments on the frequency method used.
In my accessories guides there's only mention of 7 channel Futaba which you
Can't get here and by the sound of it getting harder to get in the UK.
There's no mention of FASST or FHSS.

Hi Darren

This subject is covered in the frequently asked questions on the home page. It is clearly stated in the last question and answer on the list. Armortek can not possibly cover, or test all the numerous systems that are being launched by all the manufacturers all the time. As stated previously, Futaba FHSS is not compatible with Armortek digital control modules.

Hi

I have bought me a Futaba T18sg because this has telemetrie for controling the accu capacatie and amps off the motors. This transmitter will work with the old 4qd and with the new module you will have too put a servo impuls delay between the servo cable too the speedmodule.
