I have reached the stage were I need to add the ribbing to the tops of the stowage bins and would like to know what other builders have used and where they got it from. It seems that brass half round is no longer available so is there an alternative ?
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve.
If you cant find half round brass you can get half round plastic strip that might be O.K. on the metal lid?
Cheers Paul.

Macclesfield Model Engineer Supplies has 6mm half round:
http://maccmodels.co.uk/materials-metal ... round.html
and boiler banding an in a few other sizes:
http://maccmodels.co.uk/materials-metal ... nding.html
I use them for odd bits of brass and have found them to be cheap and reliable.

Hi Adrian,
Macc model engineering is only a couple of miles from where I live, in fact I seem to be a regular there now. The 6 mm half round that they have is a little to big, I am looking for about 4 mm, last week I asked about their stock of half round brass and was told that it was no longer produced, they had about 3 meters of the 6 mm left.
Paul
Plastic half round may be the way to go, I guess you will be needing some for your build in the future.
Regards
Steve

Re: Stowage bin detail
Steve,
I used the six mill half round from Macc models and it looks right for the scale, maybe 4mill would be too skinny?
I did consider milling a flat on round bar to make half round of the required lengths but decided to stick with the macc models brass.
I drilled and silver soldered silver steel locating pins into the half round brass and drilled holes in the aluminium bin lids to suit making the bonding process more secure.
I think there are photo's in my build thread centurion 44 if you want to see how the 6mm looks.
Regards, Mick

Hi Steve
Its what I used on the fenders on the Panther.
It is easy to solder and to get flat as it is nice and soft.
The sizes are in 1/16th inch increments that's 1.6mm steps in the new stuff.
As you thought 6 mm was a bit big.
