Hi Guys
I know everyone will have there own ideas but...
When painting your top coat is it best to paint part assembled with the deck on the hull for example or to paint it as seperate components
eg with the deck off the hull
What is best????

It really depends on you, I would recomend painting parts that disassemble seperately as painting them assembled can stick them together and give uneven edges to the paint when the parts are pulled apart. I seperated the parts but painted them all at the same time in one session so that they matched well. I also painted the deck before putting details like the tools on, so that the deck was painted under the tools. This said I know some people who complete a model before painting.
Derek,
I prefer to fit the parts together first, but then paint them before assembly. I like all parts esp steel to be coated on all sides for corrosion/rust protection. Camoflage spots on german vehicles I will do once everything is top coated and the whole vehicle is assembled. I think this makes the pattern more realistic. Painting parts prior to final assy has its downsides too, it is more time consuming, some areas/parts must be taped off (bearing surfaces for example) or sanded after painting, and it uses a lot more paint. But I prefer this method because it protects the metal parts better.
