S-Mine Launchers for my Ausf E Tiger 1321
Hi All,
I have been slowly revisiting Early Tiger Ausf E, Tiger 1321 and remaking some of the parts I wanted to make the first time round. As the heading says I have made my own S-mine launchers and S-mines using David Byrden's drawings as well as the measurements from my own S-mine.
http://tiger1.info/s_mines.html
I used K&S brass tube which was is near as dam it the scale size and some K&S brass strip, some 9Ba bolts and brass bar.
Paul.

This is something I have wanted to do for a long time. To my knowledge, you are the first in the world to have done this accurately. They even have full interior!
How do you plan to fasten them to the deck? The brackets (front and mid launchers) extend from the hull top onto the hull sides, which is a predicament for a removable deck.
Congratulations!
/Chris

Re: S-Mine Launchers for my Ausf E Tiger 1321
Hi All,
Thanks for the constructive comments. You’re right Paul I don’t think I will give them the same treatment I gave the originals.
Chris, the originals bolted onto two plates http://tiger1.info/pictures/S-mine-bracket-1.jpg.
So I intend to use two strips of brass, one will extend over the side plate and one of the studs will be a dummy which I will silver solder in place. I think the s-mine base plate will be rigid enough to hold with three bolts. I will load some pictures of how I mounted them when I do it.
I have started on the S-mines tonight and I got this far, I will add the bolts tomorrow and it should take shape a bit more.
I copied the measurements from my S-mine Although the Tiger S-mine did not have the trembler fuses. it had an electrical connection which attached to the poles on the launcher.
Paul.

Hi All,
I have finished one of the s-mines tonight, just four more to go. I have copied the design of this S-mine from the drawings on David Bryden's page. However, if anyone know of other types of s-mine used on the tiger please let me know.

Re: S-Mine Launchers for my Ausf E Tiger 1321
Hope you won't mind me picking up on a small detail. The S-Mines are fantastic but it's the way they are mounted to the deck. I have been working on some of the detail for an early/early mid for a while and only resently discovered that the S-Mine discharger and headlamps are not bolted directly to the deck. The headlamp has a steel plate fractionally bigger than the based welded to the deck with 4 threaded bolt holes the headlamp bolts to. Likewise the deck mounted S-mine dischargers have 2 metal strips, again welded to the deck with bolt holes which the dischargers are bolted to. The wire then goes under the discharger and through the deck. The rear ones have a block welded on the side plate which then has 2 holes to have the forward angled rear support bolted to. The one which fits on the rear plate matches the angle and position of the side, and this provides the 2nd part of the platform for the rear angled dishargers to be mounted to.
I had not seen these before and it was only when looking through 'modelling the tiger 1' that I saw the headlamp base, did a bit of poking around and then finally at the show at the Tank museum in September verified that they existed on 131. If you need any pictures, I took the odd one or 2. I also got pictures of the watertight air intake cover which is just behind the drivers hatch, with the plate removed so you can see how the fixing is constructed.

Hi Garry,
Thanks for the comments and no I don't mind you picking up that detail, I did mention it in reply to Chris
If you want some really good drawings of the launchers and their mounts you should visit David Bryden's site http://tiger1.info/ as well as much, much more.
Paul.

Like you I had wondered how the cable got in to the hull and I got my answer at the open day as well:D However I have to admit I haven't remade the rear brackets, I have just used the Armortek supplied ones. mainly because they cannot be seen once the launcher is on them.Chris, the originals bolted onto two plates http://tiger1.info/pictures/S-mine-bracket-1.jpg.
