whereabouts of running jagdpanther

hello all,
does anyone know where the restored running jagdpanther is, all i know is it is in a private collectoin somewere in the uk,. if anyone does and they have a contact address i would be most gratful for it.

The running jagdpanther is owned and restored by Sdkfz vehicle restorations. There website appears to be down at the moment, but you can see an archived copy at http://web.archive.org/web/200701280846 ... anther.php

Chris,

SdKfz Restorations are based just outside Yalding in Kent, almost within a stones throw of the Hop Farm where the War and Peace Show is held! I do know exactly where it is but I won't post it on the Forum for obvious reasons. I went there a couple of years ago to have a look at the JP while it was still being restored but wasn't allowed to take any pictures or divulge of it's whereabouts. We did have a very interesting morning there while the mechanics (who we've seen at W&P and Military Odyssey since for a chat!) explained all of the restoration work involved.

Attached to the main restoration part of the building is a storage area where the collections SdKfz 251 and 250's are stored, together with various Kubel's, Schwimwagens and other gems. All of the collections equipment is genuine German WWII, no Swiss Hetzers or OT810 conversions there! They also have enough parts to build another JagdPanther (with a bit of jiggery pokery and a large wad of Â£!) and have recently taken delivery of a Stug III.

When the JP was revealed at Military Odyssey three (?) years ago, we were allowed a good look round (once we'd removed our boots

) inside and out. Not having been in many WWII vehicles I can't compare the inside but to say it was clean enough to eat your dinner off would be an understatement! Everything is exactly correct even down to the working WWII vintage radio. The only thing that wasn't original was a modern fire extinguisher for obvious reasons. I can tell you that it's a tight squeeze for one of my stature to get behind the bow machine gun and I didn't even contemplate getting into the drivers position for fear of getting stuck and having to be cut out

The SdKfz Foundation as it became known set themselves up as a registered charity and put themselves about as an organisation available for visits and school partys. When at Mil Od I discussed with the mechanics about a UKTC visit for all to see the JP and the rest of the collection up close and they seemed quite happy for us to come. I e-mailed them when I got home and after a while got a sheepish reply that all visits were off. Since then their website has disapeared and they seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth! I'm wondering if they'll be at the War and Peace Show this year?

many thanks for the info, very interesting that they have disapeard so to speak and a great shame, aim sure they could raise alot of money charging to see there collection, hopefully they will be at some shows this year so i can take some pics and talk to them about various details.

As I said, when we went to see it in it's unrestored state we weren't allowed to take pictures and when we saw it at Military Odyssey I had my mouth wide open and forgot to take any pictures!!! I'm hoping it'll be at either War and Peace or Military Odyssey this year but we shall see.

In the US people are more than happy to show what they are working on, be it private citizens or military.

It is a great shame that this sort of thing happens, call it the British eccentricity. Its the same in the art world where lots of masterpieces are hidden away in private collections.

Mike Gibb, the man behind the money behind the JagdPanther restoration is a South African merchant banker! No seriously

He was high up in Deutche Bank before retiring hence why the secrecy I think, as he was the owner of one of the largest collections of Nazi vehicles which probably wouldn't have gone down well with his employers

Roland, yes you're right, a lot of people would give their right arm to visit a collection such as this
