2025 ARMORTEK KIT SURVEY

Over the last few years we have brought out a whole series of kits as a direct result of your feedback - kits like the Pershing, JagdPanther, Hetzer, Leopard 2A4, and more recently the Sd Kfz 7, 88mm Flak 36 and the upcoming Challenger 2.

So, in keeping with what has become and annual tradition, here is your opportunity to once again influence our future production plans.

We have added in some "guide pricing" next to the names of the models. This is a rough estimate of the price at the current rates.

Thanks in advance for your input and we look forward to the results.

Panther top front deck question

Post by Lawrence Godson »

Hello to all,
I have recently acquired a well built Panther which I am now fiddling with. Does anyone know what the correct treatment of the extreme front section of the top deck armor is? I have seen an added plate all the way across and alternatively, just what looks like a seam added just in front of the armor around the drivers and Mg gunner's hatches. Also in either case it looks like the front glacis plate has been extended upwards and the edge squared off so that it tilts towards the rear?
I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks,
Lawrence Godson

Hi Lawrence

The armor at the very front of the deck is slightly thicker then the rest and had a weld on it's back edges and sides. Think I only added a 2mm plate there but can't remember exactly.

The glacis plate corner does extend up past the forward deck height. Its simply at a right angle to the glacis front plate. Thought I had that addition shown on my old build but I couldn't find it. Mine was done by simply epoxying an angled piece of brass along that top edge, flush with the front plate. Some filler and paint and it looks like it is part of the glacis.

Some pictures that show it. (NOTE: The first three of mine are early photos and the deck plate had not yet been added since at the time I was wrestling with the same question you have. But, you can see it on the last one) :)

The corner is notched at the driver's vision port for obvious reason.

I'm sure someone has done this much better then I have but as no one replied yet to your question....

kind regards
Tim
