Hi Rob,

The British Model Flying Associatin (BMFA) will give you insurance cover for your tank in their standard membership.

Is this for Public Liability insurance whilst running the tank or theft insurance ?

For the latter, you may be able to add it to your home insurance, but will probably need to add it as a special, high-value item.

I've just had a look at the terms for the BMFA Individual Policy and in a nutshell, it covers loss of models, controllers and tools when stored or in transit but not in operation. There is no mention of third party liability unless I've missed something. Given the value of our models and associated equipment, their maximum cover level of £10K for £119 looks the best fit. If it's more than one model you would have to ask for a customised quote.

I've been insuring via my house policy but I ought to clarify whether that includes damage or theft in transit, or stored in a car overnight.

With Tiger Day, TankFest and the Open Day in mind, it would be helpful to hear about options for third party liability options.

Apologies to non-UK based members.

Stephen

Hello Robin, I have an insurance arranged through 'Walker Midgley' which includes Public Liability. I use this for the public 'shows' I like to attend over the year, where I display my Comet. Costs around £80 per year, indemnity provided for the public, public authorities, land owners, model engineering clubs etc,. Modelling and model engineering activities of all and every kind.
I believe there are cheaper options out there, however this insurance suits my purpose......Mick

The BMFA insurance is principally third party insurance. I got in touch with them about cover for model tanks and was told that the cover I had already, for model aircraft, also covered surface vehicles. I believe the liability is upto £25 million.
