Hi Dale,

Do you use 2 m4 grub screws on your torsion bars free end clamp? ( these are in the kit )
I checkt last week my roadwheels and some axles are loose, i think in my opinion maybe
you can use 2 M5 grub screws on the axles, but then you have to re drill and tap the holes again to M5 ) it is a lot of work to fix your axles if they comming loose.
I donth know if someone else have this problem?

Hi Yves I used the M4 grubs screws I filed a nice flat on the torsion bars ends 23 mm long 2.5mm - 3mm wide I did have to put each torsion bar in the lathe to take off just enought to fit them in tight in the axle end and the fixing end I then did up the grub screws nice and tight with a bit of super glue to hold them in place then filed the top of the grub screws so as to let them through the brass bushes . Should be OK as this is what i did on my king tiger and early tiger 1 plus I pinned all the drop arms to the torsion bar axles only .Dale

Hi Dale,

I also make the torsionbars flat on both sides and make the M4 grubs also flat and
put blue loctite on the grubs. I also put a pin in the on both sides of the suspension arms so they are ok.

It just come loose on the M4 grubs on 3 axles. I have also a big problem to loosen the
M6 grubs on the fixt side of the torsionbars ( i used also blue loctite on these grubs )
So i was able to loosen one of these M6 grubs and there was something around the grub screw ( like a spring around it ) so that holds the grub very tight? I donth know if that comes with every M6 grub. If i wanne replace the grubs into a bolt with a head on like you are used, i think i have to buy 2 new suspensionbars because the one grub that came loose, i cant put that screw back in anymore.

Yves the fixing end cap head screw I would not use loctite you could use longer 6mm and add a lock nut if you wont .. The spring thing is in all the kits It's a helicoil it makes it hard to strip the threads by over tighening .. Dale

Hi Dale,

If i wanne replace the grubs into bolts with a head on i'am not able to get the spring
back in togheter with the bolt ( i try this already ) is there a solution to get the spring back in?

Today I started detailing the road wheels all the outer wheels had a small grove added plus I'm going to add studs to the outer single bearing hub so as to have nuts on the outer wheels and then taping a thread to the double hub to take M3 hex bolts ... Dale

Hi Dale,

I must say I´m impressed with your Tiger I mid build - all clean, shiny and clever solutions. Will come in handy when I build my Tiger I late sometime in the future.

I´m also glad I read your build as I discovered that Armortek used Helicoils in the suspension bar - I totally missed that - as I´ve schratchbuilt mine and it would be hard to fit when bar is in place.

Can´t wait to see what you´re doing with wheels, it´s good to see some engineering work and not just "mounting" of parts.

Hi Dale
Make one set for the long and one for the short axle, just dry fit with the rubber rings on. I think you will find that the heads of cap head bolts in the last pic, will be in conflict with the rubber ring . On my build I had to use bolts with hex head of no more than 4m/m across and hight of 1,7m/m. You will have to try it on the tank and try it with some different riding hights of the axels, just as you vere riding over bumps in the terrain.

It might be worth smoothing off the machining marks from the wheels whilst you've got them mounted in the lathe.

Thanks everyone . Per your comments mean a lot , Ragnar I've ordered M3 X 16 mm button head screws that way they are low profile like wheel studs on a box trailer this way they will clear the following rubber tyre. Adrian good idea about the groves in the road wheels I don't think paint will smooth them out .. Dale

I put the tracks on yesterday morning this is the best stage of the build so far . I've only added two hex head bolts and nuts to the out side road wheels as they will be removed for etch priming later whilst the tiger was on the ground I gave her a test push run . The running gear all ran nice and true ... Dale
