Please note the "AR" on the Vimoutier Tiger is a post war add made by this Tigers owner Alain Roudeix, a scrap metal man who saved this Tiger from the blow torch. A true hero (but god knows how many tanks he cut up...)

I actually met Alain back in 1998 when our Kit Car Club were touring the area, quite by accident as we were re-fuelling at a garage when he saw us and pulled in and wanted us to follow him there and then but we had other plans so we made arrangements to go the next day. After he rescued the Tiger he welded it all back together and was hoping to salvage the engine but it was beyond repair. He told us he used 3500 welding rods and couldn't see properly for 3 weeks after welding. When they unveiled it in Vimoutiers apparently you could park for 1 mile around the town because of the number of people that turned up to see it. He invited us to see his other collections it was like an Aladdins cave. He was still using a Willy's jeep that he used in the resistance during the war. He had all sorts 2 Ford model T's, trucks, motorbikes, howitzer, 3 wheeler Morgans too many to name but a brilliant trip, he also showed us all his photos. Luckily we had a lady with us that spoke French, we presented him with a bottle of whiskey and he actually was overcome with tears, a really nice guy. I think sadly he has passed away now.

Evil bay or any model railway shop in the plasticasrd section "Plastruct" 3mm is the size you will need most.

I get them from squires tools. They come in various sizes. Let me know where you are putting them and I can tell you sizes.

Used on mantlet, sprockets, rear deck,

Plastic alphabets. Come in sizes 2mm to 8mm

Hi John,

I assume it is still there at the top of the town but haven't been back to that area for a long time. I know he said his son would take over all his collection when he died so am not sure but I think there is a man at Bovvy that will know I will ask next time I am down there. The Shwimwagen was in excellent condition and had 2 number plates, the French one and that one was hinged and underneath was the original SS plate. He had to purchase it from the French Government before he could register it as he used to drive it to various military shows.

The Tiger is owned by the town of Vimoutier, they bought it from the scrap metal company in the 1970-ties just as they had start cutting her up.
They paid £600 for it...
(bare in mind what we pay for our 1:6th ones...)

Mr Roudeix passed away some years ago and after his death his collection was sold at a 3-days auction in 2007.



The Schwimm went for €68000 and a Panther muzzle for €3500.

Thanks for that info, I will tell the members of our Kit Car Club that were there. That was an amazing price for the Schwimwagen !! That must have been some auction having seen some of his collection and over 3 days that was a lot of kit.
