New Tiger Owner in NW United States

I have just recieved my Late Tiger, thank you Gil for you help in locating the unstarted kit, and Doug Pinkerton for parting with it.

I have wanted one of these kits for years, after searching for remote control tanks on the net several years ago, I ran accross this site, back when Armortek only offered one model. I was amazed that such a thing was even for sale, I knew then I had to have one.

I thank you all for your informational posts that are most educational and will ease the burdens of assembly, and to all of you master craftsman that make all the excellent upgrade parts so I dont have to

Not that I posses that skill set anyway.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, and hopefully meeting some of you at some 1/6 event on the west coast.

At present I will just be collecting parts until roughly 2010, until I am satisfied that my overseas obligation is complete. So in the interim, please keep you pics and posts coming.

Bob I am only a few hours away from Seattle, we will have to get together and run the tanks once I finish mine. Just checked out your builds, great work. I you finished either one yet??

Jim,
Yeah it will be great to have another builder in the NW. Haven't finished either Panther or Sherman, although the Panther is eeeeking closer! Also have late Tiger 1 in boxes.

Thanks for the complements, I have to modify everything -so building one of these takes a long time. But great fun.

Bob,

I am impressed by the fact you find time to do two kits at once. I have the Stuart with a ton of Armorpax upgrades which was filling the need while waiting for the release of the late Tiger, so I will finish that but probably not till I finish the Tiger. Trying to drag another buddy into the hobby, I dont think he will be able to resist once he sees one of these up close. So we will have one more NW Armortek builder if my hunch is correct. Look forward to a tank day in the not to distant future.

yes I caused Bob to be come addicted, so glad you are next.
We are both in the Seattle/Everett area. Things have been crazy but it would be nice indeed to have a meeting of some kind in the near future.

Great to hear you are in the area. I have looked at your build many times and it looks great. Love the work you have done on the engine and tools. I will be home on leave next week and my wife loves to shop in Seattle, so if we get up that way I will try and contact you and Bob. I would really like to see one of these tanks up close and in person. I am not even going to open the boxes for mine until the remodle of my house is finished and I end mission here.

You have no idea, its killing me. But the good thing is when I start it I will have all the upgrade parts all there. So I am putting my list together of what I have, and what I still want, and the list is long.

You did a great paint job on one of your customers late Tigers, along the lines of what I wanted. The one without zimmerit in the gallery. I will be in touch with you when it comes time to paint. Nice job.

I recon you have a Late, steel wheeled Tiger?
So why no zimmerit? All but a very, very few (a put-together-tank build from different wreaks) late in war steel wheeled Tiger had zimmerit.
Not that hard to do and makes the Panzer look far more evil I think

I just love zimmerit and will add it to my Panther, Tiger and Panzer IV.
Would put it on my Hetzer and T34 as well but they didnÂ´t had any

Yes I have the late steel wheeled Tiger, nothing against the zimmerit, happen to like the look very much.

My uncle was a Recon Marine in WWll and had a picture of Late Tiger, no zimmerit, middle size camouflage stripes. Cant remember much more than that. It was very clear, that side of the family has all but past now. I will try to track down his photo album once I get home. He could have been a wealth of information I am sure. That is just one of the Tigers I was thinking of modeling mine after. Could turn out that it had a late hull and mid turret or early turret though. I wasnt looking for details then, just rember steel road wheels.

My research indicates that all Tigers, like you said in the middle to late stages had zimmerit, with a very few exceptions. I wonder if post September 1944 factory Maintenance included stripping the zimmerit and repainting?

The well known F13 from Fallingbostel spring 1945, and the #411 destroyed in Oberwampach during BOB.

Sold out but try to find one for it is one of the best regarding Late Tiger I.

Please note both Tigers had an early turret.
They are most certain Early Tigers from the beginning and got steel wheels as replacements later on.
