Geoff's Mid Production (2010) Tiger 1

Post by Geoff Pipprell »

Hullo everyone,
I have just secured a Mid Production (2010) Tiger 1 new in it's boxes and will take full delivery in August.
I belong to the Hobby Havoc forum in Australia and will be posting a full build thread on their forum plus adding periodic updates here as well.

Below is the link to my current project - an R/C Armory 1/8th Tiger 1:
http://hobbyhavoc.com/forum/index.php?topic=420.0
The above build is my first foray into large scale tank building as I previously had built 2 x Tamiya 1/16 scale tanks (M26 Pershing & King Tiger).

Once my current build is complete I will then commence the Armortek Tiger 1 with the build thread already created below:
http://hobbyhavoc.com/forum/index.php?topic=1306.0

I'm really looking forward to building the Armortek Tiger 1 and will have probably several thousand questions to ask of the experienced members on this forum.

I belong to the Victorian Large Scale Tank Club (V.L.S.T.C.) which is also on the Hobby Havoc forum.
We are hoping we can create more interest with larger scale tanks in Australia.

Regards,
Geoff.

Welcome Geoff :D

Well done snagging Tiger, and in the right hemisphere too

The 2010 Tigers seem to be rare on the forum - hope to see how yours goes together.

Have you decided on a unit / colour scheme yet :?:

2010 Tiger has many improvements over the previous. Should be nice to work on.

Thanks everyone.
I decided to purchase the Tiger as it was the 2nd run with many improvements - was seriously considering the late model until this opportunity presented itself.
As to unit designation, no idea at this stage - I have plenty of time to decide.
If you check out my R/C Armory 1/8th Tiger 1 build thread (link posted above), you will see I am really enjoy showing warts and all as it provides invaluable information to those going down the same path.
I will be doing the same with the Armortek Tiger 1 build as I really wish to get large scale tanks in Australia fired up.

Just like a politician things have about flipped :)

I will be taking possession of Tiger 1 from Peter - we are just working out shippings costs, etc at the moment.

Very excited to be able to put together this beauty.

As a precursor to my build are there any known foibles (and relevant fixed, upgrades, etc) I need to be aware of?

As mentioned by Adrian Harris, there haven't been too many (2010) version builds on the Armortek forum.
Are there any build links forum members are aware of that they can provide for my review?

Also, in reagard to the changes listed on the Late Model Tiger 1:
- Fully sealed hull and sealed axles and shafts giving full wading ability
- Improved wheel bearing and sealing arrangement
- Bolt on hub caps for ease of maintenance
- Up rated torsion bar suspension featuring single bar bearing and torsion bar anchor system
- Single piece machined turret bearing
- Fabricated prototypical turret construction
- Many detail improvements

Which (if any) of these are also available on the early (2010) model?

I'm especially very interested to know if I can wade this tank when completed.

Thanks,
Geoff.

Hi Geoff
Beeing a 2010 mid tiger builder I will say that the only thing missing are the hubcaps, dont applay to the mid tiger. The reason for stopping posting on may ragnar`s 2010 build ,was that I got to much negative feed back on my posting by Armortek. This due too that on my posts you will see that I have stated some errors made. I was thinking only that this would be to any help, to future builders,my mistake. I feel that this applay to a lot of us, that`s the reason way there are so few 2010 builds.
Ihave to state ,this is may feeling.
There are o-rings on the arms of the suspension, but a good after run service are too be done. This due too to the steel in the ballbearings and end of suspension arms.
Hope this is too any help
Ragnar
THANKS FOR THE TIGER`S
2010 mid-Tiger Nr.005

Hi Ragnar,
Thanks or your feedback - I have started viewing you post build info with enjoyment.
If you follow my current R/C Armory Tiger 1 build on Hobby Havoc forums, you will see that I go in a build posting warts and all information.
This can only help the next person undergoing the same future build and also provides a great repository of information for future builders and browsers as well.
Regards,
Geoff.

That's no good about the posting, I felt the same with my T1 overhaul. Funny way to do business.
