Yes Chris, I'm.
I'm copying the drawings form Armortek Construstor's Manual and in the coming weeks I'll get the first pieces.

Graham,
One thing that needs to be done different than what the drawings show is the last return roller should sit a little lower than the other 3. I don't know by how much as I found this out after mine was built and I did not fix it because I have the side skirts on and you cannot see the return rollers.

If I knew by how much and why? the modification could be incorporated somehow before I got too far. Have you any pictures that show the differant height?

Dear Graham,
Mike is right. In this picture (it's a Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf E but I think there is no difference with Ausf H about this problem)
Image
taken from http://www.achtungpanzer.com/pz3.htm
we can see the 4th return roller is lower than the others.
Seeing the picture I suppose it could be 7-8 mm lower compareing with the return roller radius (20,5 mm).
What do you think about?

4TH ROLLER

Post by Graham Ord »

Pierluigi
I have looked at several photos and come to the same conclusion i.e. 8mm on our models. It may have something to do with the fact that the rear idler is on an eccentric so when you tension the track it moves up as well as back. Well thats my theory unless anyone has an actual reason?

REAR IDLER

Post by Graham Ord »

Or is it 4mm as the back bump stop is positioned that much lower than the other bump stops.?

Graham,

Thats a very impressive mdel coming together. How do youintend to tackle the track links?? I'vejust had a look at my Bandai Panzer IV to see if the last return roller is lower than the others and it isn't - you learn something every day with this hobby.

LINKS

Post by Graham Ord »

Allan
I managed to purchase the track link castings off Gill and Mark so I only have to make the link pins ( all 200 plus of them) and I thought I had got away from mass production!!

Graham,
Sorry about not getting back to you sooner, I found a 1/35th scale drawing in ACHTUNG PANZER No.3 and after measuring and converting to 1/6th scale it looks like it is 3/16" (4.762mm) lower than the others. If I get a chance I will go to Aberdeen and get the measurment from the real thing. If you have not got the book ACHTUNG PANZER No.3 you should, it is one of the best reference books out there on the Pz IV.

Graham,

My hat's off to the job you've done on your Panzer IV. I'm really enjoying the progress pictures. Wish I had your skills.
