PANZER IV BUILD no 012

HI All
thanks for your posts im enjoing this build more than the panzer 111 and i am trying to raise the bar for my self and do a bit more this time ,and learn a bit more as well .

The hinges are from B&Q Hardwear store they are 13mm but hinges .
All i,ve maaged to do this weekend is add some bolts to the mudguard tops to secure the tread plates after i glued them in place ,still got to finish the front ends off with the springs ,i have laid the tools out on the guards to get their positions ,i found the spade didnt look right where it should go from pics on the side of the vent tops(eather the vent tops are too small or the spade is to big) so i will put it on top of the vent tops ,i will allso move the spare wheel carrier ferther back as it is in drawings ,i have got a better idea as to what needs to be made ,as in brackets for the tools .I will be using the armortek clips on somethings and making my own for others ,and adding a few extra tools as well still loads to do

Hi to all
have been having a go at the tools and things around the tank started with the jacking block next was the towing hooks and the cradle thingy they sat in ,the hooks seem to be on the large side for this model from drawings ive seen but i do like them I made a bracket for the side for the fuel or water container i had ,havent yet decided which yet imounted the spare wheel carrier and moved it back about an 40mm to where i think it should be and moved the kit sack up a bit higher for the same reason i made a small bracket for the axe on the front and fitted the jack using the brackets supplied thats it for now i think i have used all the kit parts up apart from the spare track hanger on the front ,I THINK .All the best to all ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nick

Nice work with your detail parts Nick,especially the bits you have added.
She is going to look really good when painted up.
That last picture had me fooled for a bit with the Tap wrench and Tap on the deck

thanks for the encoragement ,i ended up positioning the spade where it should go on the side ,i just ground some of the edges of to make it smaller an d now i think it looks a bit better i have had a go at some fake welds with milliput,not done this before so i need to get my technique sorted ,but it was ok ,more practice me thinks.
i made another bin to go on the right hand side where there would have been spare track links ,i am sloely moving around to the front
there is a ring thingy on the recoil housing so had a go at that and the angle rain guard for the gunners sight next was to use the spare track hanger from the side and fit it to the roof for extra track links and i fitted the pegs for the front haches to rest on

I forgot to ask about the fasteners on some of your Box's and parts,that
look like Dome Rivet heads.
Are they some little dome head nuts you have made.
The Parts on your Bins look very good with them on.

they are aluminium solid rivets they are quite soft and easy to use i just driled apiece of scrap rod to the depth of the head and put it in the vise put the rivet through the material to be joined and then put the domed head in the shallow hole in the rod in the vise and then flaten out the other end of the rivet with a small hamer, job done , it gets a bit fidly if its inside a box but with a bit of tinkering you can usually get around it ,i have made lots of diferant simple tools now, that help you get access to places i find them very good ,and think they add a bit extra to the finish. ,On some things that dont need to be fixed together i just drill a hole and glue them in just for show.The rivets i use are 3/32 inch by 3/4 inch long i have got longer ones that i can cut down to sizes that i want . the company i got them from is, Fast Fix Direct ,i have hade good service from them in the past ,hope this is of some use .

Dont Ya feel a fool when your answer is already in your Question.
I never thought of nice soft aluminium rivets to do a proper job.
I will look at Fast Fix Direct and get some to have a practice with.

g'day. every day you & gunter amaze me with your details. you both are personalising your builds. as an ex-cav guy, m113 lrv, mrv, m577 & lav25 as with all ex-tankies you customise your vehicle. i see this as one of those situations, within historical reason. after perusing the internet and seeing hundreds of images its quite easy to see similiarities between models of all scales. its easy to feel like your copying someone else. i look at it as inspiration of whats possible.

so keep sharing please guys.

Ray i,m with you ,no zimmerit for me after the fake welds ,not up to it
i made the brackets for the front track links and bolted them on ,still got the front mud guards to sort out and the cleaning rods on the side. on the front hatches there is a trangular plate i think its for the locking mech ,made them and fixed them on then realised i need to do handles on the inside as well that will be another day apart from the few things i,ve mentioned i am starting to get the material together for the side skirts and turet ,and hopefully make a start on that ,as soon as a can get my head around all the brackets needed,this last pic is just a view of the front with the new pieces added . regards to all ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nick

i am looking forward to that day when it moves on its own,but not yet still havent ordered the running gear yet
since coming up against the small shurtzen glitch i decided to get on and finish the mudguard ends and the cleaning rods the cleaning rods just need the threded ends added to finish them off


there are somemore small details i want to add but i think its time to spray the topdeck and turret up next and then it will be on with the shurtzen plates ,now thats gunna be fun
