New 1:6 tank builder

Post by Terry Godwin »

I just placed an order for a 1:6 scale Tiger 1 kit from Armortek and joined this august group. I have ben a modeler most of my life but this is my first venture into all metal very large models. For years I built 1/35 and 1/72 tanks and airplanes, kit bashing where necessary. I have also built a number of wood ship models, several from scratch. Lately I have been into radio control airplanes. I prefer to build kits. My eyesight is getting poor and I am unable to fly anymore but I continue to buiold for others to fly. I thought I would ventuire into this field. I like tank modeling, the larger the better, and prefer to put them together from a kit. So here I am, anxiously awaiting next Spring and the asrrival of my Tiger 1.

I am reading the posts on this forum to try to get a feel for what I have gotten myself into. There is obivously a lot of exertise on the forum and I hope to benefit from it.

I currently live in Denver, Colorado, USA.

I was in your place last year. The kits are a lot of fun and if you like big the tiger is very big. New kit should be great. Plenty of time to research and prepare. Be prepared for the weight as well as the size.

Terry,
Welcome to the world of big metal tanks. I think you will enjoy the large size models and RC tanks in general. 1/35 seems so micro small to me any more. The Armortek models are great and you can detail and scratch build to your hearts content.

I grew up in the Denver area, and I miss the mile high city and Colorado. I live in Seattle area now, but always consider Colorado as my home. I believe there are a growing number of Armortek owners in Colorado. I too love RC planes, but they have a very short life span with me  Building them takes months or years and only 10 minutes to wreck them. It's like loosing a family member.

I'm sure you will find the RC tanks to be a lot more durable as well. They will give a lifetime of enjoyment as you are never done with them!
Best regards, Bob
