It was such a relief to see the sun today that I abandoned the workshop to give Hauptman Stotten a run out in the Pz III. Not sure the track marks on the lawn were all that welcome.

Thinking I'd spruce up the Pz III Ausf N for Tiger Day, I decided to try the relatively new MIG Mud, from MIG Productions. It's an acrylic mastic which comes in 75ml jars. There are currently two shades, European and Sub-Saharan, in two varieties wet and dry mud and in two grades, fine or rough, so eight types in total.

I ordered one of each texture in the rough grade think that something intended for 1/35th would need to scale up for 1/6th but I think the fine might be just as good for fine detail. The mud couldn't be easier to use, just slap it on with an old brush and work it into the shape needed. You can also combine the shades to give some variation. It dries rock solid in about three hours.

My Pz III from 15 Pz Div was operating in the very wet and muddy spring of 1943 in Tunisia, far from sandy, desert conditions and the few photos I've got show this particular vehicle covered in mud, wet and dry dust, so I thought the additional mud added to the overall effect I was looking for - a combination of dusty, dry and wet mud. MIG Mud couldn't be easier to use and works well. The Sub-Saharan dry shade is a very ochre colour, which will be just the job for the Vietnam Australian Centurion, when I get round to it.
