Looking good Phil, have you seen Steve White's compressed air version on the Panzer 3 forum, very impressive, as you would expect with Steve's engineering.

Hi Dennis
Yes I saw Stephens Air Recoil, very impressive.
I looked at solenoids and linear electric servo's but all were too big.

recoil system

Post by Nick Farrugia »

Hello to you all
I have been doing a scratch build of 250 half track and have just about finished it, just some small bits and pieces to do i have just done a short video of the recoil on the main gun ,and machinegun movement .It is not a complicated system ,it just runs off of a servo with a bit of mixing on the hand set ,well here it is hope you like it imgImage

Hello Nick, that's brilliant...a recoil and flash makes all the difference to these models, brings them to life.

I have decided to install a recoil in my Comet this Autumn. Are you able to show a photo, or provide a brief description for the recoil setup for your half track.

Regards....Mick

250 halftrack recoil

Post by Nick Farrugia »

Hello mick
it is just a high torqe servo atached to the rear of the gun .the canon(OR ANTI TANK RIFLE)had to be remade with a slide action to allow it to move back and forword it is the same princible that phil and others have come up with for their tanks, check out phils videos earlier on in this thred my version is simpler but not as good as phils system ,i am not very good with electrics so its got to be simple .I had to play around with the hand set to get it to work the way it does at the moment ,but im happy with it now.
some times i havent got a clue as to what im doing with regards to the hand set its far to clever for me but after many nights of tikering with it i have got it to work resonably well. my advice would be to get the barrel slide action to work in your tank then sort a servo bracket out and so on .as things come together you can get to grips with the idea better.this is how i did it one step at a time. iwill try to get some closer pics for you to see but i think you would be better looking at the way phil set his gun barel to recoil on his tank as they will be the same. if i can help in any way i will but im not the best person to ask ,i work on the lines of if you first dont succeed then try try try and try again but i will help if i can. good luck with yours
best wishes nick

Hi Marcel
no its not a d.i.d model its completly scratch built the hull is made from aluminium fully welded seams all the wheels and tracks are cast aluminium that i cast myself the front wheels are armortek 222 wheels that have been altered to suit it has taken just over a year to build ,with equal amonts of pain and plesure ,but now im happy with the way its turned out .
best wishes

Great work Nick. I took some photos of an SdKfz 250 in Belgrade recently. Here is a link to photos.
