Casting serial number

Hi everybody, how you guy do to print this casting number on the different parts of the panther (or other tanks) Where do you buy the letters? Do you use random number or the one you choose fits with the tank you choose to modelize??
Do you have a list of parts who has this casting numbers on?

I would like this information too. Seems to me letters and numbers are made with milliput or something similar. I will manage this but the place and logic behind the numbers intrigues me.

I'm currently adding them to my Tiger 1. I got the lettering from squires tools. Here is a link.

Good price. Quick service also. I use mainly the 5mm. Have not found use for the other sizes yet. Cut from the sprue. Superglue in place. When set go over with some Mr. Surfacer.

Just use the "Search" function all it takes is a little time

I use Walters Plastruct letters size 4.

Can be found in miniature railroad shops.

Well wouldn’t that be nice?
No my friend no such list exist, nor will you find anything on the subject in any books written to date.
Own research study photos or the real thing is the only way to find out.

All cast parts on any Panzer had cast numbers/letters.
Some was visible from outside and some not visible under zimmerit or applied at places not to be seen.

Here is a list for the Panther, not complete but might give some hints:

* = Not visible

Mantle * (not always)
Tracklinks
Sprocket
Idler
MG ball mount *
Cupola *
Air intake grills *
Air outlet shroud
Cast exhaust guard
Sprocket gear case

Swing arms and bumper stops were also cast but confirmed letters I have not found to date.

What letters/numbers above items had can be found in my saga or in the topic I wrote regarding the sprockets.
Cast letters at items not found there will be revealed in my saga in due time and not before.

Please bare in mind the huge variations between Ausf and factories, also remember the use of serial numbers so every part had a genuine own number in most cases (just to make things more difficult for us... ).

Kent, I hope you are not thinking of purring casting numbers on all your track links. I have been searching for casting numbets on the Tiger 1. I can see some in some photos but cannot read them. I need to visit a museum and see a real Tiger.

No, adding cast numbers would be insane
10 meters of driving and they would be gone...

But maybe on the spare ones has not decided yet.

On spares would be fine and would look great if on the side on view. I was thinking about this when I saw your post. I will research this further.

The cast numbers on the Tiger track links would not be visible when mounted because they are on the contact side of the links. The spare links I made do have the cast in numbers but they are very hard to see in the photos because of scale.
