Here is what I am using:
FUTABA S3306 24Kg/cm TORQUE SERVO
TURNIGY THREE CHANNEL SERVO SPEED/DIRECTION REGULATOR
SEPARATE 2.4GHZ RECEIVER AND 6 VOLT BATTERY + SWITCH
With this system you can slow the recoil speed down as much as you like.
The Turnigy was about Â£7, and the servo Â£45

It does look nice and simple and neat aswell.
I'm extra simple

What is the function or need for the extra receiver and how is it
connected up and controled.

I am using a separate receiver because I have run out of channels on my transmitter.Also, I use the long two way momentary switch top right of the tranny for the recoil action,and as this switch is on channel 7, I had to have another receiver! Also I had to use a 'Y' lead to enable me to plug in the 6 volt battery and the servo into channel 7. I hope this makes sense!

I thought it might be the shortage of channels,but I didnt know that you
could operate 2 receivers from your one transmmiter,and also that the
momentary switch is connected to channel 7.
Thanks again you learn something new all the time when its shared on
the forum.
I can feel some more experiments coming on now

Phil, just to make things clear.I had to use another receiver not only because I had run out of channels, but because on the main receiver in the tank, 7/B was used as the battery connection. I do not have a BEC.

One more thing I forgot to mention, is that you cannot run Thomas's sound card on 6 volts, only up to 5 volts. Hence the separate 6 volt supply. This servo needs to run on 6volts!

Hi Mark & Gill,

Personally I would much rather have an optional recoil system with gun firing sound affect than a blank firing option. I would think that most of us would prefer this. But maybe we can have a show of hands as to who prefers what?

I'm up for a poll, who's going to kick it off?

I'm still building my Tiger 1, but I can't wait to fit a blank firing system. My first priority is a realistic gun blast with the flash and smoke. If its possible to incorporate the recoil action then this would be next on my wish list.

I'd also have to say I prefer the shock&awe of the blank firer option over a recoil.

It's also worth remembering that whatever preferred option this forum proposes may not be the same as the requests Armortek get from the overall customer base.

I've heard quite a lot of the different bangs created by these sound boards and nothing compares to the big bang of a blank firer either shotgun or 9mm. In my tanks I've used nitro and black powder 9mm and both give a big bang. The sound out of the speakers is always somewhat muffled IMHO and nowhere near as loud. If I had to choose between recoil or firer I'd go for a blank firer everytime. Nothing like surprising someone who doesn't expect it

I should know I've had it done to me loads of times.

The blank firer does make an impressive noise but I have to say doesn't sound anything like a real tank round being fired. It sounds just like what it is - a small calibre low velocity charge going off. On the other hand, the recoil, the discharge of smoke from the barrel and the platform rock are all needed if the tank is to look anything like realistic. So if the sound system can replicate real tank main armament sounds at a sufficiently loud volume, I'd go for that every time. Just a personal view and as this very useful post shows, each to his own. For my part, recoil every time.

Mind you, I'm so deaf from the real thing that the sound hardly matters to me.

Hi Guys,

I guess a poll is still needed to convince Gill and Mark to give us an option. I would prefer the blank firer just for the smoke, flash and bang, but law in Holland prohibits the possesion of blanks. I had the police(weapon team) overhere check out the blank firer and they qualified my Panther as a cat.4 firearm(the highest) so in order to qualify for the blank firer I need a weapon license...

For me in this case, the recoil option would be the best alternativ allthough I'm still experimenting with fireworks and a remote detonator. If I get this to work and won't interfer with Dutch law I will post this.
