Battery placement in M2

The video we posted was just a lash up to test that everything worked ok. On the M2 we have the batteries inside the equipment lockers, which has worked out really neat. On the M3 and the M16 we are recommending that the batteries go in place of the fuel tanks. To do this the supplied steel fuel tanks are removed and replaced with two 7Ah batteries. These are just a little larger than the correct scale for the tanks. Once in place they can be either painted or canvass covered. They do not interfere with the space for the quad mount.

The fuel tanks aren't quite right if you want to replicate the self-sealing type. The tanks themselves are black rubber with a thin metal 'shield' facing into the crew compartment. The tanks are slightly longer than this shield, so they poke out both ends. This means that you can fit the 7Ah batteries by simply covering them with something that looks like black rubber and sliding them behind the shield. Can post pics of the real tanks if anyone requires.

Here are a couple of photographs of M16's towing trailers. I believe this was not an uncommon practice.

The first one shows an M16 passing through Waldwisse, Lorraine, France December 1944 with a home-made job.



The second was taken at Mertzwiller, France January 1945, and shows a M15, following an M16, both pulling trailers.



I have a restored ammo trailer which I can take numerous photographs and dimensions if you need them.
