I'm not sure about the new Armortek speed controllers but the 4QD Vortex controllers have a "soft start" ramp configured on the motor drive to prevent any overly rapid acceleration from damaging the drive train.

This will be entirely effective in preventing any kind of chassis rock :?

Hi Adrian, we are using the later 12v mk1 esc's with the benedini sound system which gives a short revearse pulse to the motors rocking it back about 25mm, you have to make sure that you have given it a little back stick just before you are about to film the firing, this helps take up any slack the gearbox might have, with the weight of the Armortek model this is reduced a tad I have beefed up the gearbox to cope with the extra load and it seems quite happy cheers Phil

Gun Fire

Post by phil fitzpatrick »

Hi Guy's
This is a very interesting topic with the different mechanics that have
been shown so far, also the great links to the vidio's
As a new member to Armortek I wanted to say thanks to everyones input
so far and ask you please keep it up.
I've seen some of Phil's vidio's before and I liked his vidio on the range
and others it led to(OH dont worry about the swearing Phil,I like Billy
Connolly  ).
I hope as Stephen said that Lulworth is open I will have to go for a visit
for the experience.
I was fortunate in my time to have been at a Millitary Air Power display
in Germany in the 60's using Rockets,Cannon and Napalm,on three fields of Tanks Trucks and Tents.
We were only one feild away it was awsom and accurate.
Looking at some of the vidio's I think only Richie could come up with the
required smoke :) and on Phils vidio on the range I could see the recoil
before the smoke,so looks like everyone is saying, timing is all so important.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil and Phil and everyone else.

I have been watching this with some interest along with many others and would like to thank Ant for bringing this subject up again, it is true that a recoil function would /does add a lot to the appearance of our models, having built the recoil set up for Ant on his Panzer 111 {thank you Clive for your help} this was simply done with a 1/4 scale servo and works well due I think to the small lightweight barrel of the model but this does not allow for the slow return we are all looking for.
I have thought for a long time that for someone with a fully set up workshop it must be possible to make a 1/6 version of the Tamiya type recoil unit that they use in their 1/16 tanks?
As for smoke if it were possible to ever combine the two functions blank firer and recoil ...even though we shouldn't I know I am just thinking and writing out loud so to speak...you would not need any more smoke than the Armortek unit puts out, just ask Paul Wills he has first hand close up experience of this
Just my two penny worth.
Cheers Paul

I'am also interested in a recoil system,
here are a couple of pictures of the tamiya 1/16 recoil system
it would be awesome if somebody can make that recoil system in 1/6 scale.

Hi Yves

Excellent pictures and exactly what I was saying now we just need someone to make it a little bit larger scale...someone with all the machinery and know how...someone who could perhaps offer it as an alternative to the blank firer system
Can anyone think of a person who might fit the bill...?
In their spare time of course :D
