turrt rear hatch hinges

Post by Martin Taylor »

Can someone explain about the cylindrical hinges (CK0418) to the rear turret hatch please? Did they allow the hatch to be slid sideways and therefore they have to be clear of the turret body? On my pics of the Bovington original it seems as if they may have been welded to the turret along their length or at least at the outer ends but the liberal Zimmerit obscures the fine detail!
My pics of the prototype Armortek KT at Bovington appears to show two grub screws to fix each hinge to the turret but Simon's excellent KT appears to have them unconnected to the turret body except via the pivot pins.
A minor detail but all advice welcome!

Hi Martin

They are torsion bar springs, designed to counter balance the weight of the hatch, which would otherwise be very heavy to close. Our prototype was incorrect in this area.
