Motion and Special Effects Pack update

Post by Armortek »

We have just updated our Tiger gallery

http://www.armortek.co.uk/gallery/main. ... &g2_page=3

Showing the interior of the Late Tiger kit (see pages 3 & 4)

Fitted is all of the Motion Pack, the sound unit and switcher for the new firing unit.

The following significant improvements and new features are included:

The all new PCB based control box. This unit is a purpose designed and built unit for Armortek. It includes a number of features not previously supplied with Armortek products.

The unit is powered on and off by a push button switch on one end. This button needs only to be depressed momentarily to either switch on or off. A micro processor based battery condition monitor is provided, with a multi coloured LED in the top face of the unit.

A stabilised 5V (BEC) supply for powering the radio receiver and up to four servos is provided. This eliminates the need for a separate Ni-cad battery pack for the radio. The receiver simply plugs in to the control box via the cable provided.

Two high current (40Amp) and two low current (5amp) supplies are provided. Each is fused and provided with a red LED to indicate that the fuse is in good condition. These LED’s are recessed into the cable outlet side of the unit. The high current supplies are for the main motor speed controllers and low current supplies are for all the tank auxiliary systems.

New EMD main drive motors. These units provide extra power and torque and are fitted with a significantly more robust gearbox.

New turret rotation drive motor. A Parvalux motor and epicyclic high torque gearbox. Combined with the Electronize FR12 controller to give genuine and precise turret rotation speed control.

Benedini TBS5 full function sound unit packaged with a new 15W Cebek power amplifier, for reliable audio performance. The wooden box housing the speaker gives improved frequency response. (The box is not included with the kit.)

Connections are provided for the new second generation Armortek firing unit. The firing unit offers smoke sealing to the housing, massively improved firing performance, with the virtual elimination of misfires, and the ability to handle a larger and more widely available range of cartridges. Connections are also provided for the smoke unit element and the new rectified smoke unit fan giving improved performance from the smoke generator.

This specification is now standard for all subsequent models.

Upgrade options will be made available for previous models and further details and pricing of these will be provided in the New Year.

Late Tiger Motion Packs should start dispatching next week, subject to the arrival of one motor which we have been promised is on its way. As always we will try to get as many out as possible to those of you who are waiting.

Hi Tom

The unit visually looks very similar to the original, with the exception of the drive motor. All other changes are internal. We will post more information on this and the other option pack improvements in the new year.

Hello Gill and Mark . The new motion packs looks great , can we have a photo of the turret motor under the deck . Will the two holes in my early tiger deck match the new turret motor so as to let the gears mate up ? Also what hardware comes with it . e.g battery tray deck beam turret hold down system etc. Will the new motors and gear boxes just bolt into the older tiger models with out any changes ? One more question is the new motion pack easyer to install and plug together are the insructions better . Dale.

Hi Dale

To answer each of your questions as you pose them.

The fixing holes in the deck will allow the new motor to be mounted on its own new bracket and the gears will mesh.
It does come with battery tray, and turret hold down system.
The new motors and gearboxes will just bolt in on their new mounting brackets, without any mods.
We think the new pack is easier to install and we have tried to improve the instructions, perhaps others will give us some feedback on this one.

Will this firing unit upgrade work with the one sent out with the early (May 1943) Tiger, or only the one sent out with the late Tiger you just finished dispatching?

Hi Doug

The blank firer upgrade will work with all of the units previously supplied on all tanks.

The Late Tiger customers have yet to receive the blank firer and for these the new generation unit will be supplied.

Hi Jim

No, we worked out that it is more cost effective to provide new parts, than to have customers return and re-machine the old ones.

Re machining would have also meant that areas would have not been protected by being anodised and additionally would not have the benefit of the PTFE coating.

As soon as the units are available we will let everyone know.

Hi Gill,
You mentiomed in an earlier post that the blank firer can "handle a larger and more widely available range of cartridges". Could you please be more specific.

Thanks,

Kirk

Hi Kirk

The unit is ideally suited to the very short, 1" long blanks made specially for it by Geometrotec. These give a loud and deep bang together with smoke and flash. The new improved design now has chambers that will accept the standard, 1 1/4" long blanks that are available from gun sport shops all over the world. These are frequently referred to as "dog training" blanks and are also commonly used for intruder alarms. If you choose to use these larger blanks the unit will give a very, very loud bang indeed. Additionally the bigger the bang, the more the mess. So you will have more cleaning up to do. They should be used with caution around children and animals. Having said all that, the new unit is PTFE impregnated (Teflon) and is really easy to wipe clean. This aspect is very different to the previous design. The larger cartridges are also very impressive when used outdoors at range.

We will be posting some demo videos on the site very soon.
