sdkfz7 canopy first fitting

Post by Jeffrey Goff »

Hi, just an update on the build so far, as I have been out of it for a couple of weeks, I have just test fitted the cloth canopy, and have made two of the canvas doors, four more to go, the covering that I used in the end was a fabric used for back drops in photography, and is the silver coloured cloth behind the halftrack, I dyed it brown,
then washed most of the colour out, it folds back nice and neat, I have added pictures to my gallery, should have it finished bar the painting, by the end of the week.

Hi Jeff,

Very nice work, I like the canvas door flaps you have installed, they really do look the part. I see you have marked it up for Grossdeutschland, first battery towed artillery. I was wondering what regiment you were going to do, what’s the final colour going to be, will it be winter?

Hi Paul, I will be going for a winter camo, of the Flak-Abtellung, Infantry- Division (mot), as I will be starting on the 88 in the new year.
I have finished all the canvas door screens, but will make the hanging side covers with windows at a later date, as I can not make out how they attach to the edge of the canopy, I have added the chequered plates to the mud guards, and made the windshield wipers, these move and have rubber blades, have added some move pictures

Hi Jeff,

Same colour as me then, only mine is the Windhund, Artillery Regiment 146 (mot), attached to the 16.Infanterie-Division (mot) 1942-43 at Mius. Wow you have been busy; I can’t believe how fast you are doing yours. I am struggling to get time to do mine, I even took some time off, but ended up doing stuff for everyone else. Oh well can’t wait to see your 88 build and it looks like you have started on your tiger as well!!

Hi Paul, I just lost two days build, my better half wanted to do her xmas shopping in France, Just got back but to late to start tonight, as for the 88 I again bought it already built, I prefer this as I can look at the whole model see everything is there, and also what is not, and plan the things I need to make a detailed model, then strip it down and start again.

Jeff,

This is a superb model, the canvas roof looks amazing, you have multi tallents if you sewed that yourself. Will you be able to bring it to the Armortek open day in 2008?

Hi Allan yes I did the sewing, (I can not believe I owned up to that) I have still got to attach the canopy to the frame, and hand sew the leather straps to the door screens, I made the side spotlight tonight, it came out well, just got to make the bracket and connect it to the power, I will post some pictures tomorrow, I will do my best to be at the open day

Jeff
