The Prototype is on it's way......

Post by Stephen White »

I had another wonderful short visit to Gill and Mark today to get a sound card swopped into the new amplifier module. Mark was kind enough to show me progress on the prototype and to let me take some pictures:

The hull is very impressive and quite different to the German and US tanks. The turret seems much further forward. The double hull and Christie suspensions are novel. With a rear sprocket drive and a lot of power, this one should be very lively, just like the original. Mark revealed that he was considering offering both the fishtail and Normandy cowl exhausts. The exhausts and the absence of smoke grenade dischargers were really the only visible distinction between the two variants of Comet, so both types will be possible with the kit. The welding at the rear and the interleaving of plates is quite complex and there may be a document in the archives at Bovington which will help confirm the geometry.

Mark - it's very impressive and good luck with progress. Gill - thanks for the bits and pieces and the welcome.

All the best

Stephen

Thanks Stephen for these photos. It is very interesting to see how the prototype is coming along and how it is literally coming together!

I'm beginning to understand why everyone is so enthusiastic about this model. :o It really is interesting and most charming! It would be a shame to cover such a beautiful piece of engineering with paint. In fact, covering the suspension is a shame - although quite necessary.

But please Mark - dont't forget to work on the Tiger...

Cheers,
/Chris
