My Stug conversion

So Guys
The elevation unit is bolted to the back of the gun.
I had to replace the mounting bracket and make a spacer block to
get things to fit the back of my gun mount.
I also machined 3 mm from the side of the rebate in the elevation arm to get things to line up.
I had to make an adapter plate to mount the elevation motor again to get things to fit my set up on the STUG,

The next problem was to get the turn gear and mounting to clear the elevation motor and also to fit in the space I have in the fighting compartment.
I will show how I did this in another post,

Derek,

As said a very nice piece of work. I don't suppose it applies to a Stug but the only minor nuisance I have found with my Tiger and Sherman is that the elevation motor hangs below the turret ring making it difficult to put the removed turret on the ground. If I were to re-build one of my tanks I would consider ways to mount the motor differently.

Hi Allen
Yes the motor hanging down was an issue on the Panther but in the Stug
like the JP the the fighting compartment is fixed.
I will have the roof and the rear deck removable only.

First class work Derek, great solution. Does the Stug gun move side to side? How will you accomplish this motion?

Thanks yes the gun will move side to side I decided to section the turret
ring gear in the end and make a frame to fit round the pivot frame.

Hi Guys
Some more Pictures.
Not A lot of space to the back of the frame.

How I want to mount the turn motor I can use the supplied motor mount but I will need some mods to get it to fit.

Motor could go under the frame

I have doubled up the gear wheel to make it thicker.

I have made a brass pivot bearing for the gun and I have a PTFE washer
of about 60 mm dia that goes between the the base of the gun and the fighting compartment frame.

I Have modified turn motor mount so it fits my model.

And last the teeth.

I will fit it over the weekend.

I was thinking you could use a large servo for the side to side, but you've got it nailed with your soln. Motor mounted down looks perfect. Beautiful.

The motor has to go under the plate as it hits the roof if standing upright.
This is the problem of doing the work at a different location to the model,
It is an easy fix though.
I have one or to other clearance issues with the elevation hight and the roof that will need slight modification.
Nothing major though.

Hi guys
I have made the changes to the elevation arm to give the clearance on the roof.
I will post pictures of the system in place tomorrow.
I have also been working to fill the 2 hatch holes in the side of
the hull as the Stug did not have those hatches.
I will then get it together for the show next weekend in London.
