Introduction

Post by Bodo Langbehn »

Hello together,

I want to introduce me, my name is Bodo Langbehn and I live in Germay. At the moment I have began to build the SdKfz 222. Over 20 years I have built several tanks in scale 1/10. A few years ago I have changed to 1/6, on my workbench is a scratch built Panther A and a SdKfz 7 Halftrack from Armortek. I have to check out how to post pics, to show you the progress of building the 222.

Hello to all of you,

at first I want to say thank you for the very warm welcome you have given to me, and especially to my friend Kent for posting some photos from my Panther. It makes me a bit proud when I read the comments about my Panther, because I think the level in this forum is very high.
Yes the Panther is my own construction. I have made most of the parts of my own, except a few parts, which were to big for my mill and lathe.
The tracks were made in investment casting and the material is Alpaca.
The weight is about 140kg, the Panther has a double torsion bar suspension, which works very soft. I have built a three-gear-overlaptransmission and the drive motor has 750 W and it works with 24V. The steering motor is a starter motor for modelengines. The max. speed in the third gear is about 8 km/h.
If somebody want to know more about the Panther, please feel free to ask.

Regards

Bodo

Bodo,

Outstanding model, sir.

Did you achieve the scale suspension travel (approx 83mm) with the double torsion suspension? Could you show us how this was done and with what diameter torsion bars/yoke deflection?

Your nickle-silver tracks are also a joy to behold. Do you plan to run the model on them outside ( in a garden or field), or are they for light/indoor use only? The prices I have been quoted in the UK for such limited run investment castings have been very expensive, do you recall what you paid for your tracks?

Please forgive my barrage of blunt questions!

Kind regards
Fabrice Le Roux

Hi Fabrice,

I didn`t measure the suspension travel, but I think it is about the 83 mm.
The construction is very simple made, the torsionbar from the swing arm is fixed on the opposite side in compensator like the original and the second torsionbar moves from the compensator backwards to the swingarmside.
The diameter from the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th swingarms are 5mm, 3rd to 6th are 4,8mm.
I don`t have any problems to let the model run outside, therefore I have built it, the tracks are very restitant to abrasion. I let the tracks cast a couple of years ago and I think the price was arround 1800.-€.
At this moment I am not able to post pics, If you would send me your email adress I could mail you the pics from the suspension.

Regards Bodo
