A little help Please: HL230 P45 Dimensions

Hey everyone,

I need a little help.

I want to detail an HL230 P45 engine for my 2010 Tiger.

I have plenty of great pictures, and even over all dimensions of the engine. What I do not have is solid, point to point dimensions. My question is: does anyone out there know where I might find point-to-point dimensions of the HL230 P45? If I had just the overall length of the CAST BLOCK and the with at the oil sump I think I could derive most of the other dimensions.

Hi Brian.

Have you looked at the http://tiger1.info site

They might have the dimensions you're looking for, or at least something from which to work.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually, Tiger!.info was the very first place I looked, and looked, and looked. I was sure it would be there. Actually, with all the wonderful information there, there are no dimensions for the engine.

Germany's Tiger Tanks, Jentz & Doyle
Achtung Panzer #6 is on the way
and a few other picture books.

I can take the dimensions you need from the 1:6 engine I am building and which is quite accurate.

Thank for the help. I have a 1/6 resin model from Steel Dragons, it is a nice model. I want to check the dimensions and scratch build the auxillery parts, adding detail.

Actually I was thinking that if all goes well I would continue on and do the block and heads by hand. One step at a time seeing how it goes.

Hi Brian,

since I am very interested in a model of HL 210 P45 there are at least two cut away illustrations of a HL 230 P30 in my pile of infos may help you.
The pictures are black and white of a size like 3 MB. If you give me your email, I will send it to you. The pictures are from a reprint of the original workshop manual for Panther engines HL 230 and 210 P30. Working from cylinder Ã˜ and stroke you can scale it to 1:6.

In return I may ask you for any illustrations of the HL 210 P45 for my Tiger I. Clear photos of the outer appearance are fine. The oil cooler, generator, cabs and oil filter is of interest for me. Inner dimensions are no problem.

Thank you very much Ad for the help offered. The pictures you have mentioned are in my files.Yes I know the HL 210 is difficult to get infos of. But for my early Tiger I that's the one and only. Last not least it is the lighter version with the aluminium block and has some interesting features. So it looks I am the only one interested in a HL 210 in this forum ?

Sooner or later I will probably post some pictures of my build. Ad, show us how fare you are with yours please.

Have you seen this 1/6th HL 230 thats for sale from Planeta Comic?

I have two of them and they provide a great base for detailing. The company is in Spain however and doesn't ship to the United States so you'd have to get a friend overseas to order it for you and then ship it to you. That's what I did.

Overall though it's a nice model and will save you a lot of work as opposed to scratchbuilding everything. I also have one of John Goode's beautiful all metal Maybachs which you can see here:

Also the books "Tiger Tank: A British View" and "PZ KW VI AUSF H (TIGER) 1944: REPORTS FROM M.I. 10 AND SCHOOL OF TANK TECHNOLOGY" both contain a ton of engine pictures with detailed pictures of a lot of the components both assembled and disassembled. The latter book is more detailed. I found a copy fairly cheap on eBay.

These two books contain the most numerous and most detailed engine information and pictures that I have ever found. In fact the engine pictures on my site came from these British reports.

Thank you for the information. At this point I have done pretty much all that you suggested. I think I have "PZ KW VI AUSF H (TIGER) 1944: REPORTS FROM M.I. 10 AND SCHOOL OF TANK TECHNOLOGY' as part of my copy of "TIGER: A BRITISH VIEW". I am away on business and will check when I return home.
