WHO IS PLANNING TO ATTEND THE ONE SIXTH FANATICS IN VEGAS

Post by james leslie »

Hi!

I would like to find out how many of you plan to attend the One Sixth Fanatics Expo next month in Las Vegas (well Henderson) Nevada. I plan to be there both Saturday and Sunday.

Lets plan to have all the Armortek guys have a "Meet 'n Greet" while at the show.

Hello All,

I just wanted to give an update on the One Sixth Fanatics Expo. The show was very interesting although I was dissappointed to see that the only Armortek model in attendance was a Tiger I at Mike Stannard's booth used for displaying his upgrades. I was really hoping to see more Armortek models. All the usual 1/6 suppliers were there including Mr. Dave Dibb from Armorpax. I was intrigued to talk to him about all the upgrades he is going to be making for the Armortek M2/M3/M16. the Machine gun skate rail mounts will be fantastic. I hope the quad .50 Browning AA mount will be similarly detailed. Other Armor manufacturers in attendance were Steve from Panzerwerk with his resin/ABS static tanks and another company called Battle Ready Armor with some really interesting tanks being made out of laser cut sheet metal. Seems you just fold the sheet metal up into its final shape and pop rivet it together. While certainly not in the league of Armortek, the price point of under $1000.00 will, no doubt, create sales. A fellow named Victor Lou has come up with a pre-engineered motor and drive system which will be a drop-in unit for these models. His price complete with motors and speed controllers is $575.00.

Rick Ivansek from Die Werkstadt displayed a scratchbuilt 1/6 scale V-2 rocket on a launch stand (Rick, I never did get to ask you if that think really flies). His V-2 was displayed with 3 other dioramas in the lobby of the convention center. Rick also brought out his masterfully kitbashed Dragon Kubelwagen converted into a rolling mechanics shop complete with tools, Oxy/Acetylene tanks and an authentic 1/6 scale flathead Ford V-8 engine similar to the type installed in the Ford truck built under licence from Ford by Germany......Yes, the German army did have some Ford trucks........Built by Germans.

They also had a model contest with about 2 dozen figures judged in 4 categories; pre WWII, WWII, Post WWII and Other. Finally, they had a vehicle category. Sadly, no Armortek models in the vehicle category. There were only 3 vehicles entered. First place was taken by a masterfully scratchbuilt radio controlled M3 Stuart tank by a fellow named Chris Weiss. Second place taken by a static Battle Ready Armor Panzer IV and Third Place taken by a static scratchbuilt 222. The same modeler won 2nd and 3rd places; however, I failed to get his name.

Dragon in Dreams displayed thier new SdKfz 251 all metal halftracks in both camo and dunkelgrau paint. They are heavy models that I would estimate at over 30 pounds each and, sadly, the suspension and tracks dont seem to work which i presume would make converting it to R/C difficult.

If someone would give me a primer on how to post pictures in this forum I would be glad to show you some pictures taken at the show.

I think a round of congratulations and thanks to Mike Stannard for putting on a very professional grade of show is well deserved here. Mike obviously put 100% behind this effort and the quality of the event was very evident. Sadly, it seemed that attendance was very very limited. I am not sure if the travel expenses to get to Las Vegas kept people away or If there just aren't many 1/6th enthousiasts in the southwest USA. For my part, plane fare was $300.00 roundtrip from Detroit and 2 nights at NY/NY hotel casino was another $250.00. I did; however, make up the hotel room at the blackjack tables by walking away with $275.00 of the casino's money.[/img]

I cant seem to figure out how the "IMG" button on the post a reply screen works. Any advise here would be much appreciated.

James,

I usually just copy and paste the image link from my Photobucket folder right into the reply without using the "img" button.

Good luck

Thanks for taking and posting pictures from the show. I was sad to hear about the 251 let down. :(

Kind regards

Tim

Hi Tim,

What do you mean "post the image link?" Do I have to create my own website withe the pictures online in order to upload them here? Why wont this forum allow direct insertion of pictures just like I can insert pictures into an email?

Very Confused

Yes, being able to attach it directly to a post as an email with one button would be great. I havn't figured out how. I ended up just going to photobucket.com. There are many other sites too but it was very easy. It's free and you set up an album, upload your pictures there and once there, just paste the img or video link(listed below each image once uploaded) into your post. Uploading them to the album takes seconds with a dsl connection. They are also nicely oraganized and viewable in you album once set up.

Just be careful of image size when posting onto the forum.

If you wish, you can email your pictures to me and I'd be happy to post them for you on this thread if you'd rather do that.

Look forward to seeing them

Tim

James, thanks for the report.

I hoped things would go well in Vegas, and it does have its attractions, but I would have been surprised to see many Armortek models reach Vegas - after all the check in baggage allowance does limit how many components of a Tiger I can be brought in on each trip. Nonetheless it sounds like this was a good first effort, and we should look forward to attending the next!

I finally found the name of the guy who entered the scratchbuilt 222 and the Battle Ready Armor Panzer IV in the model competion. His name is Bill Podbreger. He won 2nd and 3rd place in the competiton. Hopefully next year more people will enter vehicle models.

Gill and Mark,,,any chance you will bring Armortek to the show next year? It would be great to see you at a show in America.

Best Regards

Jim

James thanks for the update. Chris Weiss is a member here I beleive.
He has an Armortek Panzer 4.
The DiD track, was it the completed version? Or still the prototype? It is supposed to be "rc ready" when delivered. I hope so, since I have a deposit on one.
If your not living on the edge, your taking up to much space.
