Hi, as there are no posts on the halftrack I thought I would get the ball rolling, and let me say as a person who loves German tanks, this is my favorite model so far, its big but not overpowering, and compaired to the Tiger it is quite easy to customise it to your own liking, without being an engineer, so will post a few pictures here untill I can figure out how to post them on the gallery;
If anybody has any full face pictures of the dials and notices on the dashboard, they would share with me I would be most grateful
Your doing some superb work on this model, keep the pictures coming. I don't have one of these models, I have an early Tiger and Sherman, but I do appreciate the work you are doing. My favourite part of building these models is the detailing, which really brings them to life. I would advise getting the bulk of the engineering and wiring done before final detailing as its so easy to damage the model, or you find you need to drill another hole or something which is a bind if you've finished painted the part concerned!!
Hi Allan, thanks for your kind words, I bought the halftrack allready built and running, so most of the wiring was in place, so it was just a case of taking it apart, at least you know how it all fits, and can look at the model with an overall view, and not just to get it finished; I pinned all of the track arms, moved the battery tray to the front, when I order the sound unit the speaker should fit inside the radiator, I do not have a milling machine, so I hand filled out the seat benches and the rear door for the spare wheel, the rubber and steel seat tops supplied, weighed about 5 kilos and would have survived a bomb blast, so I made hinged wooden tops as the original, with leather cushions, all the tools are hand made; this is so much fun, the 88 is waiting the same treatment, the 222 is still in bits, and the Mid Tiger will just have to wait
Sorry I missed your reply here. You obviously have quite a bit of work lined up wit the models. I agree that its good to reduce weight where ever possible, which is what I have done with my Tiger. Up to a point it will aid performance and battery life
Hi, just an update on the build so far, all major work finished, sound and motion packs fitted and it runs well, I used the Spektrum 2.4 radio, this is 6 channel, so in order to have control over the winch, I conected ch'5 to a servo that moves a micro switch, that turns on the power, and ch'6 to reverse or forward the winch, I embedded the arial on to a flat piece of plastic, and sealed the rear compartment, with everthing totally enclosed in a metal box it works without problem. When I fitted the sides I used a black silicon tube cut open and fitted to the bottom edge, this seals it and looks like the original, lots of pictures on the gallery
I've just spent 1/2 hr looking through your gallery photos of the model. I must say its extremely impressive. The detail work you are doing is turning it into a top model, and you have the ability to do the electronics as well, clearly your a very accomplished modeller. Some general views of the finished model in action would be very much appreciated.
Hi Allan, thanks again for the encouragement; I would like to say that I am not an accomplished modeller, and only started in March of this year, I did put together some Tamiya tanks but that was it as far as modelling, it all depends on what you want from the kit, for me it was and still is the enjoyment of solving ways to do things, with the few hand tool and small lathe, an hour spare in the evening and a couple at the weekends, and most of all a wife that is happy that you enjoy yourself.
A man after my own heart. I chose the Armortek models as I enjoy the building. I spend between 1-2 hours a night building my Sherman and modifying my Tiger. I've deliberately chosen an ambitious conversion and detailing project for the Sherman to make the build last a long time and give good value for money. Once a model is finished I can loose a bit of interest, but I find that the Armortek models offer a lot for the builder.
If you've not been building that long you clearly have the talent.
Excellent build! Your photos look like a real one undergoing restoration! Very very nice
I totally agree with Allan. Extending the build with accurate detailing, customization etc., is a great way to make an already really fun experience last even longer.
