Post by Patrick O'Donnell »

Was the sdkfz 222 ever fitted with railway wheels like other armoured cars?

Hi Patrick,

I have collected quite some books and pictures on the 222 in the meantime, but no trace of railway wheels. Sorry :(
Cheers,
Ad

Hello Ad,

Thankyou for checking your books. I have only seen the Italian Autobilinda armoured car fitted with the railway wheels, but maybe one day a photo of a 222 will be found.

The Autobilinda had the railwheels fitted behind the ordinary wheels/tyres which might be possible with the 222?

It would make an interesting modification for use on 5 inch or possibly 7 1/4 inch gauge track.

Patrick,

I was just looking around on the net as i stumbled on that picture.
I've remembered that i saw something on the Armortek Forum about this, so it was the least i could do...
Don't know how to get the picture but perhaps you can contact the people of the site.
The site is also available in other languages...

Greetings

Sven
