Tiger 1 Stowage Bin WIP "Final Update"
Tiger 1 Stowage Bin WIP "Final Update"
As many are waiting for the completion of the Tiger 1 Stowage Bin project I am posting a work in progress report here so those that have waited so long for there bins can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have to date delivered 21 assembled bins and 8 kits. There are 15 assembled ones to deliver and these will be completed by the end of May.
Work so far on the 15.
Top decks, bin lids, side panels, lift hook recess box and bin lid catches completed to date. These parts required 1515 miniature rivets which are all hand applied and soldered or hammered in place. Over 2000 more rivets to go.
Top Deck
Support struts are riveted in place with some soldering.
Bin Lids
These have been shaped and the water tight seal channel soldered in place.
Lift Hook Recess Box
This has rivets soldered in place, folded into shape and soldered, then additional rivets fitted and soldered.
Side panels (Not shown in main picture)
These have the end panel rivets soldered in place.
Bin Lid Catches (Not shown in main picture) 4 per bin
These are assembled ready to fit.
A picture of a completed bin.
Regards
Mike

More progress on the Tiger 1 Stowage Bin. Side panels fitted, base shaped ready to fit and bin lids have all hinges and latch hooks attached ready to fit to bin.
Another 1050 holes to drill for facing rivets, 675 for back plates. Rivets to be hand fitted and soldered. Base plate to be soldered, bin lids to be attached by soldering hinge, bin lid latches to be soldered in place, support brackets to be attached and back plate to be attached and they will be finished. My deadline by the end of the month, all other work and orders are on hold until these are finished.

Mike,
I am amazed at the work you are doing. Its a great boost for this hobby, but what do you do to stop driving yourself mad??? Do you make a profit out of this. When I buit my early Tiger the stowage bin kept me going for a copleof weeks and I only made one which is nowhere near as detailed as yours!!
Excellent work.

This is a full time business for me so I cannot let it drive me mad, but at times I have to give up and take a break. The bin parts are all photo-etched so it is not as hard as it looks, just time consuming. Each bin takes on average about 8 to 10 hours to put together. When I first designed these I vastly underestimated the assembly time so there is very little profit on the first sales, hence the increase in price for new orders and the long time in production. Thanks for your kind comments.

The Museum of Modern art here in Oxford leaves me frustrated about the lack of artistry and craftsmenship in in the items exhibited.
I think the last photo of those storage bins is just fantastic in what it represents and sure beats any print of Andy Wharhol's Campbell soup cans.
I look forward to a similar array of Fiefels being pictured soon, and The Museum of Modern Art in the US featuring the work of Mike in the future...
Congratulations Mike!

Thanks for your kind comments, hopefully David visits me before he hits the slot machines. LOL. Don't think I qualify for a museum exhibition, it is a nice thought, I would be happy to see one of the bins fitted to Tiger and all painted to see how it looks. I don't think anyone has posted one yet. With these last 15 there will be around 40 of them delivered, if yours has been fitted and painted please post a picture.

Hi Mike
David Gray's is one of the finest examples of a Tiger 1. Hope mine comes out half this good! I believe this is one of your bins. I hope you do not mind me sharing them here Dave. Too good to hide in the gallery.
Here's the link to Dave's project in the gallery. http://www.armortek.co.uk/gallery/main. ... temId=5683
