AVRE tows a 17 PDR

Post by Gary Richardson »

Hi all

As it is a nice sunny morning I thought I test drive my AVRE to see how the newly installed mudguards held up. Then I looked at my 17 PDR and thought why not try towing it. I am sure at some time during WW2 a tank would have helped move an AT gun or pulled one out of the mud.
It towed the gun and limber with ease, just had to be careful to take the turns easy.

Regards
Gary

Gary -

The tow hitch on the back of the Comet was known as the 17-pounder hook. So I’m sure that tanks would have towed guns if necessary and required …..

All the best,

Chris
