Panther Ammo

Post by Tim Bowman »

I'm taking full advantage of the week off to get busy on the projects I've put off for a long time.

I asked Mike Stannard if he was planning on offering ammo for the Panther like the ones for the Tiger I and regrettably the answer was "not likely". So I will be making a handful of spent casings from brass for my self as well as some done in my rapid proto 3D printer. Sort of a two prong approach.

The projectiles are not final but are getting close and I'll be making 3D parts, both on my lathe and rapid proto after the new year to make molds from. I'll use which ever comes out best for final master.

As a side note, I'm working on PIV ammo too.

I'll post more images as they progress.

Mike, if you have changed your mind, please let me know.

Happy new year everyone!

Yes!

This is interesting and something that’s been on my wish list a long time :D
If you make them please count me in for a pair of each.
Panzer IV rounds are also of interest for me.

Keep up the good work!

Here's some parts I ran in the 3D printer a few days ago. The painted AP round was my first attempt with one on the lathe out of aluminum and still needs some minor adjustments. Again, the material makes it hard to see any of the subtle details. I'll photo after I clean them up and primer them.

Hi all,

Heres an updated 7,5cm Pzgr. 39/42 warhead and completed casings ready for molding. I'll also be making 7,5cm Pzrgr. 40/42 and KwK42 HE.

Built my first transport box and will begin mass producing the individual pieces for those as well. Also sent out art work for the markings on the box. I'll post photos of those when I have some completed. Attempting some decals for the ammo as well but still in experimental stages.

Hi Kent

I'll be pouring the castings from that end so the "primer" detail is left off at the moment. Depending on how much time it takes to come back and add a simple cut to indicate the primer, I'll do it.

First box assembly below. I will probably make them with the wooden lift handles and lift-off top for now until I can figure out the hardware. I plan on doing both green-painted and plain wood finish.

Been working on replicating subtle nail details and wood grain/knots for these boxes and think I'v finally came up with something I like that gives it a much more scale, realistic look. I'll give the parts this treatment prior to assembly. The artwork on the boxes will be stamped on the finished boxes. The ones in the photos are just Photoshop.

Tim,

Tese really look the business. I like the wood effect on the boxes. Are the casings brass, if so how do you intend to replicate that?

Hi Allan

The projectiles and casings are aluminum I turned on my lathe. These will be the masters I will use for the molding. I will only be offering cast resin versions of both spent casings and complete ammo. I will be molding and casting both Panther and Panzer IV ammo next week. 2 types of ammo each (possibly 3).

Hope to have some green painted Panther Patronenkasten to show as well as the PIV transport boxes.

Here's three boxes and two of the Panther master Patr. 39/42 projectiles and casings. The boxes represent the final "unpainted" version.
