Smoke liquids

Post by Andre Meylan »

On our models in the various videos, I have always seen white smoke and that is not really near reality ... is there any dirty heavy dark grey smoke liquid available or can be mixed by some of our chemistry experts here? Cheers, Andre

No. There is no way to produce anything but white smoke, unless something is burning for real. It is, however, possible to blow soot out the exhaust, but you can imagine the downside...
A little too much is about right...

I remember years ago someone mentioned putting black food colouring into the oil to make the smoke black, but they found that once it came out of the exhaust it made everything black

Hi guys,

dark 'smoke' can IMHO be produced by emitting someting as black laser printer toner or coal dust, but never by vaporizing a liquid.
kind regards

Hi Gerhard

I would not use laser toner as from what I remember the cartridges had some severe warning labels about possible health hazards.

Hi Gary,

your hint is absolutely correct, and I would never use toner for 'smoke'. But some guys do....

Can't imagine what toner particles would do to any heater elements in a smoker- nothing good I'd imagine.

Hi Jerry,

I asked a guy who worked with toner. He used no heat but a simple fan to blow out an certain amount of toner that was seperated by a servo before, only when accelerating the tank. The coal dust solution worked in a similar manner.

Seems like you could dye cornstarch powder black or perhaps even heat it until dark brown and use that- possibly more environmentally sound.
